The New You

A Poem About Dementia ~~~~ What lies behind your eyes I really wish l knew How are your thoughts now formed What it is like from your altered minds view Have you surrendered to your new normal Or does confusion and frustration reign Do you understand you are different now Do you despise this unfamiliar brain So many questions with no answers Sadly that will never be known I truly hope you have found peace In your unfamiliar, befuddled mind that roams

A FAV for my list, Deb. Well written poem, my dear friend. Your descriptions of what it must be like are amazing. The questions were just as I'd imagine a person wondering about. Thanks for sharing such a heartfelt and touching poem with us. May you have a great 2024, my friend.

Ive been through this dear deb, one o my loved ones someone in my family went through a very hard breakdown, basically psychosis and mania, and it was one of the hardest thing to ever witness and go through, its even harder for loved ones as we have to adjust to their new normal. Well they are ok now, but still that feeling i can never forget and this poem reminded me of that. I feel this so deeply. A fave for sure for me. Sending you light always

Ouch. This one hurts... Some of my best friends have succumbed lately... Truth be told, I feel that it's started to creep up on me as well. C'est la vie, as Shirley H. might tell me. Happy 2024, Deb.

Sigh, this is a very emotional poem which reflecta the daily struggle of people suffering with this condition.. I know a close relative who unfortunately, has dementia..my own maternal grandma.. The emotions of turmoil and vulnerability are so turbulent in your lines.. So poignantly you've conveyed the state of their 'unfamiliar brain'..Also, in other ways, this poem also speaks about those who have a 'befuddled mind' and not a glimpse of clarity in their eyes.. Quite a creative and deep write.

For some people, I wonder where, somewhere along the way they traded their sense of normality for a befuddled mind. Don’t look into those eyes or try to comprehend. It’s a useless cause.

This compassionate Poem struck a chord with me, Deb. I have two adult children who have Schizophrenia and struggle with this misunderstood. Unforgiving, disease. Every day is a challenge that they face alone. My heart breaks for all who are afflicted with anxiety or mental health of any kind. It can break up families. Great write, Deb. Shirley XX
