The New Cat
I
set her
on the floor.
Two eyes, like bright
periwinkle blooms,
peered out from a brown masked-
bandit face. Lilah, our Blue
Calico, warily approached
this strange intruder. And I looked on,
unsure how they’d react; then Lilah hissed!
Extending a leg, Lilah took a swipe.
at our new kitty; Sooky stood her
ground. Seeming unruffled, she struck
back with one small paw. . . Two weeks
later, I watched Lilah
gently lick the face
and tummy of
her new-found
little
friend.
