The Lack of Sleep

The minutes count down To a day starting Which I'm too tired for I can't imagine full functionality Eyes that blink Instead of clamp closed Breath that goes in and out Rather than sits and waits The change from the horizontal To the vertical Seems to defy scientific possibilities Surely I have no balance point And I am top heavy with tiredness My feet feel galaxies away A concept rather than propriocepted reality The tock has ticked into position No more time for thinking I'll shift my centre of gravity Divert energy from thinking to doing And try not to walk into things As I spend the day trance like Until I once again can lie down Unfortunately alertness lies there The saboteur of tomorrow

Something with which we all can relate to, DD:) I wrote a poem called "shut-down button" once:)

I only woke at 1am and 5am last night. Probably managed about 5 or so hours but I always feel better if there's a 4 hour block, so hopefully I'll be much better today :)

sometimes it can be hard to "shut down" at night when all is quiet. Soft music helps me, sometimes. Great writing as usual, DD.

Thanks DT, this time it's because I'm camping in the living room as my room is the isolation zone. Plenty of other times it's no reason at all though. I'll take a look at your poem if it's on here.

How powerfully you transform your insomnia and the consequent lethargy into words that invade the brain like somnabulists. Great penning DD

I know the feeling, the poem captures how it plays out in mind and body. Some excellent lines and imagery...a good read.

Thanks Paul, the last line has been used before I'm sure - so ideally I'll rethink that one. I'm always pleased when I use Terry Ireland's tip of making up a word though. Propriocepted can be figured out but I'm not sure it's actually in the dictionary haha. My energy has actually evenly distributed well enough now I'm up luckily. Thanks for your nod of support. I of course nicked the balance point idea from your poem :)
