The elder tree is all the seasons in living form. In the winter it waves from beyond my windowpane with soft wands of brown, accepting the breeze and welcoming heaven's gifts. Come spring it brings forth the buds that bequeath of their verdant song into the air. Blossoms open as yellow floral fireworks and cream petals. In the strengthening summer sun, it becomes a celebration of all that is green, quietly growing its banquet of berries for the larks of the sky. It is a poetic photograph, transient yet eternal, adorning the ground as earth's confetti.
elder tree blossoms sweet-cream stars amid lush green humble as a lei

I visualize this tree in full bloom, silently staying by your window and proclaiming its sweet presence through all seasons. Love the expression "floral fireworks" and "banquet of berries". It looks like all the stars have clustered together in the sky. Lovely Haibun, dear Sara!

my grandfather had elder trees; as a young girl, I was fascinated with them and their beautiful flowers. No, didn't write it for a contest...maybe in the future. Thanks for stopping by...hugs, Sara

Dear Sara, You have nicely shown the aged oak tree's appeal across time, revealing nature's perpetual shifts. Your poetic imagery and skillful wording build awe and admiration for the tree's natural beauty and strength. Your massive opus's haiku nails the tree's humble beauty.

yes, they're spectacular when they bloom. Not blooming here yet...was remembering the ones in my grandfather's backyard. I was enamored with them as a child...hence the inspiration for the poem. Have a splendid evening...and thanks for stopping by, hugs, Sara

awww, such a sweet comment, Jerry. Thank you! We've not planted any here...don't think they'd endure the dry, August heat. Thanks for being a great poet friend! have a blessed evening, Sara
