Sunrise Sunset

Sunrise is nature’s fair warning A splendid new day a-borning, Golden chance to become again How I know this, I can’t explain, ‘Til the sunrise says “Good morning!” Sunset is nature’s sweet goodbye, Another day has passed on by Golden chances taken or left, Sometimes the heart is sad, bereft When many things have gone awry.

Again, thanks, Caren. I wrote the first stanza and the second one just seemed to cry out to be written, too.

"Golden chances taken or left" How true! Great little poem, Milton.

I love to see them both in all their glory but sunrise is my favourite, seen some spectacular ones coming up over the mountains in Turkey. Tom

Wow! I'm not an early riser, so, truthfully, I've observed very few sunrises in my lifetime. If the sun didn't come up until noon or so, I'd see them. I go to bed very, very late (or early in the morning depending on how you see it) like 1:30-2:00 am and seldom am up before 10:30-11:00 am. I seem to need that much sleep.

One of my favorite songs in "Fiddler on the roof" this poem is as beautiful as the song. Very nicely written, Milton. Have a great day...Charlie

Thank you so much, Charlie, for that wonderful affirmation to my poem. I like that song, too. Interesting, though, I really didn't have it in mind when writing these lines. Hmmm....

When the sun sets I always love the moonlight that follows to say goodnight. Your poem brought such a nice image to me as I read it. "Golden chances," what a nice simile. I'm glad I found this one.

Thanks so much, Marikate. Those two words are actually borrowed from the song, "If I Loved You." The phrase in the song is "I'd let my golden chances pass me by."
