St Patrick's Day Musing nfc

St. Patrick's Day embodies that sweet spot where alcohol consumption is believed to have one consequence only - unfiltered joy! I haven't Googled St. Patrick to check if that's what he intended, but as I write, friends in Dublin are sending videos with a Guinness in the foreground of every sing along in a tiny bar. I've been to Dublin a couple of times without committing too much of it to memory, but I do recall the full-on joy of the Irish band. They played every song I've ever loved including, on request, Creep and Galway Girl - I'm not from Galway but I adopted the song a long time ago because I enjoy dancing to the bit about her hair being black and her eyes being blue. I feel a million miles away from a sing along or an impromptu jig, though my memory reminds me I've been the instigator of both (thanks brain!). Ahh brain, yes - there was also that one groggy mid morning in Prague where me and my friend vowed never to drink again, then we realised it was 17th March and ordered a Guinness and the cheer returned! Happy St Patrick's Day :) (Sorry about my - convenient - lack of awareness of the consequences of day drinking or Saints back stories)

Ah, yes, a day to "remember" or at least try to....when Dad would break out the Jameson and the accordion and the "dancing" would begin....

Hi John, the day that starts out well haha. I don't think I've ever actually overindulged on St Patrick's Day though - just on several other non assigned days of the year that aren't as busy :)

Dear DD, There’s something about the way you capture St. Patrick’s Day and not just as a day of revelry, but as a thread in the fabric of memory, mixing together music, laughter, and that beautiful, reckless joy of being alive. I love how you don’t just recount the moments; you relive them within Dublin’s heartbeat in a tiny bar, the familiar hint of a favorite song, the haze of Prague lifting just in time for another round. This was a joy to read, DD—thank you for letting me step into your world for a moment. Spring Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Daniel, I was looking over my shoulder then to see what amazing poet you must be referring to! Haha! Wow, such a thrilling account of my little walk down memory lane, thank you so much :) I was merely trying to join in from afar when writing this, but I'm so happy I posted it now. Thanks again for engaging with my thoughts in such a lovely way :)

Hah this made me smile, especially as you wrote “ thanks brain” haha good one! I always wondered what st patrick is about, so I googled it last night i think, apparently is more of a cultural thing now? Not sure if i understood it correctly but it was interesting to learn and i love this poem that flows with nostalgia! I can resonate with some fun parts of this! Pleasure reading you today! Hope you had a lovely one with your loved ones! Sending you light always

Thank you :) I love the music, dancing and friendliness when I'm in Ireland (or even an Irish bar) but I didn't celebrate yesterday and went to the gym instead. You're right that you bring light - lovely hearing from you, welcome back :)

I enjoyed, from top to bottom, all your free verse sentences, the informative bits and the drunken, humorous ones, as well. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

I’m always late to the party Dilly, and I only live in the (Dirty old town) of Dublin, Although I will admit I’ve been (drowning the shamrock) on and off (mostly on) today, since we are less religious over here, St Patrick’s day has become synonymous with all things black (not hair) mainly Guinness lol! Don’t think Patrick himself had this in mind back in the day, a one man band was singing Creep earlier today in the pub, no Galway girl I’m afraid lol! Happy Paddy’s day cheers David

Ha just went down the rabbit hole of reading about Shane then... You're up bright and early and possibly a better sign if you feel rough, it's when you think you've got away with it you're in trouble :)

You are quite right to point out we hijacked Dirty old town and indeed the Pogues as our own from you, although Shane was only too happy to go along for the ride, lol! (Stockholm syndrome) perhaps, now this thread is getting messy just like my head today, :)

Hope you're feeling alright this morning then David :) I'll go sharsies on Dirty Old Town (love that one too) as it was written about Salford (and I went to university there) but doubt it would have been such a longstanding hit without the Dubliners (and The Pogues). Might have to get an Irish songs playlist on today after being reminded of my favourites (my wedding band were an Irish band too). In fact I think I'm about 30% Irish - which is a massive claim this time of year :) haha but bizarrely didn't drink a drop :) thank you for stopping by, Creep sounded so good on the fiddle :) happy day after

lol Dilly. Since he was 'sainted' I doubt he intended his day to be celebrated with imbibing Guiness and Jameson. Turned out that those things are more worthy of honoring than the man. Now, I'm singing Galway Girl...
