Spring Is Not All

Spring is not all, it is not bread nor wine Nor wool against the lengthy winter spells From January, April seems divine Like a mirage in misty distance dwells Yet with the melting warmth as seasons change Comes more than flowers bearing pastel hues Clear snow transforms into a muddy range Cloud filled insects and cobwebs cloak the views Along with birdsong, wind storms rise and grow And take their fill of newly planted ground With May comes danger, as the farmers know When homes shake with tornadoes fearsome sound Though spring exaults in accolades address Let's value, too, this quiet time of rest 1/28/23 example for my 'Spring is Not All' contest

Michelle, your poetry always shines with original phrasing and thoughtful insights, but I always find your sonnets especially exquisite and well-crafted. The tension between what we gain and what we lose as season transitions to season is lovingly contemplated here. I particularly enjoyed "Like a mirage in misty distance dwells" and "Cloud filled insects and cobwebs cloak the views". Wonderful example for your thought-provoking contest and a Fav... I look forward to reading all your winners ~ John

While I love spring, I know there are downsides to it and I thought it would be refreshing to have poems that see the other side, thank you for your perceptive comment and the fave, poetry bro!

Great example of what you're looking for in the contest. As spring is a favorite for many, I like your idea of pondering it from a different perspective.

Spring is not a season free of blemish ! Each season has its ups and downs. When we enjoy the beauty of life, many lives may be taken away by natural calamities like cyclones and tornados. A perfect sonnet, dear Michelle !

You're so right, Michelle. We should find the beauty of each season. However, I really don't like winter (shhh). But your poetry, as always, stirs my heart with its beautiful profoundness! Best of luck!

Your writing is beautiful, Michelle. To make way for the start of a new season, the old one must come to an end.
