I always loved the song: The sound of silence which goes back to the time frame of this poem.

I was recently inspired by a beautiful collaboration by Maria Williams and Darren White where they also included a beautiful version of this song.

I have decided to include a different version of the song here (above), with this poem that is quite powerful.

Silence or to speak A many years ago I was trapped in a cell of silence as a child For to speak would have been my death, as was my friend. A prison for my soul to be hiding with a promise that I made. Until later, when all silence was broken with the promise spoken. My voice became a ship carrying me through turbulent seas. Tides pulled me as life changed dramatically, I still sailed on. Learning the power of speech and faith, the savior of truth. ---- The freedom to be me ---- Heidi Sands 6/21/17

I embrace you Heidi, and I understand and can relate. And I smile at you. I have used that song so often too, as metaphor. Also by Disturbed, which is by far the most powerful and emotional.

What a powerful poem Heidi I love the last line. The video goes great with the poem and I don't think you could have picked a better cover of that song then the one by disturbed.that one is my favorite. A great write and a great video to go with it well done Heidi well done.

Wow Daniel, Thank you . I appreciate that. Actually, I don't like public speaking. But... I have written a book on this poem topic, that I hope to be published, so I may have to get used to it then lol.
