Short Shrift - Final Walk
Tick tick tick tick
I sit here and wait
After I've ate
For those final few moments of my fate
Before my final walk straight through that gate
The clock is ticking
I have to finally admit
To sins I have committed
Thoughts have made me wonder how I got this far
I fought fiercely overseas for my country
Coming back home with heartache
Not knowing what state I was in
The battle did not end there for me
I still carry the weight of pain and suffering
Preventing me to adjust to civilian life
Losing everything in my life
Of the insanity that I was going through
The pain in my soul is so heavy
The person in the mirror isn't me
I sought my counseling
Through drugs and alcohol
When it wasn't enough
I took it out on my family
Now I sit here and wait
For the freedom I seek
May God forgive me
And bring me peace when I sleep
