Shatterproof

the bottle bounced,
said shatterproof.
kids have to do it
more than once.
mom’s countenance

shatterproof -
probably laughed
behind the scenes.
more likely created
creases, mad lines.

when our kids
don’t show up
on time -
when the watch
ticks slowly
fear growing…
anger ticking,
if relieved
by the doorknob
jiggling…

shatterproof,
no explosion,
just quiet,
sheer silence,
no glance,
no hello

when ya know
you’ve completely
screwed up

shatterproof
at remembrance,
when your kids
likewise
turn the key
recklessly

if they’ve made it
home, you sigh
with relief,
with epitome,
with resignation,

knowing they’re stepping
into the whole wide world
…have you made them
shatterproof?

tears at times
…when ticketed
…heartbroken
…pregnant

We survive
We are alive

Because we don't live in a protective bubble, we are fragile and tend to break. I wish we were "Shatterproof." Your thoughts caress gently around me and my heart. Congratulations Kim, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Kim, great riffing on the word shatterproof, and sharing some of the deeper waters of childrearing and living in a dangerous world. Well rendered, congrats on POTD!

When raised with prayer or just moral well-being; they may stray away from the narrow path, but greater chances they'll come back and like you Kim, are shatterproof. Congratulations on a most stunning and worthy POTD!

A great write Kim. We truly are shatterproof against all the 'events' of life. Strong, not frail and timid. Congrats! :)

Even when a volcano is boiling within we try to be shatterproof. In a way it is advisable. Those who get shattered with every little problem are not fit to live in this world as life is full of problems. Congratulations dear Kim on your POTD

Parents do try put a shatterproof countenance on their faces, when possibly cracking up behind the facade, excellently expressed here Kim, wonderful choice of language chosen to reflect our true feelings, congratulations on a very much deserved POTD, cheers David

The relief of the sound of the door opening, is such a blessing, and treachery if you get a call to say that one wasnt shatterproof. Kim I am sure your poem will touch the heart of every parent that reads it. So true to life. So meaningful. Just love it. So glad it was rightfully acknowledged as POTD.
