Sage Is Bleeding Red

The sage is bleeding red all over the plain Like autumn has stabbed it with a sharp sword, And left it wounded with open bloody stain To await the white gauze of snow to absorb Like a bandage and bring healing once again.

Lovely poem. Wish the title was different from the first line. But the repetition does work here since it is a powerful phrase.

Thanks so much, Line. I appreciate your thoughts on my poem. Now that I've thought about it, I suspect you've never seen a field of sage turned red and shimmering in the breeze. It truly resembles bleeding!

I planted sage bushes last spring. That's fantastic that they turn red. Mine are Santa Barbara ~ maybe they don't :( Your poem has super imagery! Congratulations :)

Comparing snow to gauze and the autumnal red shade of sage to blood was ingenious, Milt.
