A player whose name rhymes with Clooney Got drunk and then drove - what a loony Spent the night locked in jail When released he looked pale The outlook for him may be gloomy He’ll get whacked with an enormous fine But his club won't force him to resign It would make much more sense losing his road licence and he stops drinking lager and wine! Yesterday UK footballer Wayne Rooney got stopped for drink driving 09-02-17

One really ought to think//Before one takes a drink//All becomes play//as the brains go away//but the consequences can really stink. I may be wrong, but I believe one of the Nordic countries has a mandatory lifetime loss of driving privileges for drunk driving. Good idea anyway. Great lim'rik! huggsies ~ john

Money does not or cannot buy class. A working class person who wins millions of pounds on the lottery is still working class just with a lot of money. Likewise an upper class person who looses his fortune is still upper class. We are to the family we are born

Enormous fine about 1 hour's wages Or 1 / 100.000 of his taxi fare home I bet its the only time he regrets not playing for England

ha ha ha i love that final comment. Christopher you are right a fine would mean nothing to him so hit him where it hurts with a lengthy driving ban and and additional red card of community service to coincide with every match he is due to play ... may make him think better than to try and play away from home in the future! :-0 hugs jan xx

You are so right there Niall he definitely wasn't thinking with his brains when he got drunk and was found with another woman... he's got a LOT of explaining to do to his poor wife:-( hugs jan xx

Hi Jan, So many have lost their life because someone made a foolish decision to drink and drive. If your going drink DON'T DRIVE! Or get a designated driver. (That has not be drinking too) As always good limerick- Alexis

You are so right Alexis. there are so many tragedies as a result of drink or drug driving and also using a phone at the wheel and the penalties they get when there is an accident are never high enough when they have taken a life. Rooney didn't have an accident but was a fool and got 'court' and I wonder how his pregnant wife reacted when it was disclosed he was with another woman but he's done that before too:-( hugs jan xx

I agree with you Joseph and from what I've read in the press his pregnant wife is fuming especially as he was caught with another woman when he was arrested. he's got a lot of explaining to do and I hope the courts don't just hand him a fine as he's a multi millionaire and has to take the punishment he deserves. :-( hugs jan xx

hi Jan, this is Emma. Russell had his two hours today and he wanted for me to read and write to a few people before I head home. So I obliged, he did give me Friday night with my girlfriends. Anyway, Russell is saying, "This is a fabulous write on drinking and driving. I believe that this person should have a mandatory lock up, especially if he was three times over the legal limit. There should be something in place to get him for that, no matter who he is and how much money he has. Great work"

Thanks Emma and Russell:-) he is a multi millionaire footballer so a fine means little. it will be interesting to see what sanctions are imposed. I think our friend's idea of community service to coincide with football matches is a great one. i doubt he will get prison as his wife is pregnant but that shouldn't be an excuse not to be penalised for the crime:-) I'm so glad you are getting some 'me' time Emma as it must be tough for you with Russell being ill and a few hours with your friends will be a real boost to you:-) hugs jan xx

Drunk driving should have more severe consequences than a fine. This said, from what I read a big the problem is not "drinking divers" but rather "driving drinkers" who will continue driving even without a license. Sigh.

I agree with you Agnes and a fine means nothing to him he is a millionaire. It will be interesting to see what sanctions he gets - our friend suggested community service that coincides with every football match he was to play - that would be a double hit to him and make him pay in 2 ways. I doubt he will get prison his wife is expecting her 4th child but that shouldn't be a reason not to lock him up!:-( hugs jan xx

- Too little punishment ... they make life dangerous to other people ... - But a football club has the money to "buy him out" in silence ... should not be allowed - Rooney ... you're a loser ! - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

It will be interesting to see what punishment is given Anne Lise a monetary fine will mean nothing as he's a millionaire so i hope the punishment he gets teaches him a lesson:-( hugs jan xx

A fine of any amount is not enough of a punishment for his irresponsible action. You know how I feel about people being drunk whether they're behind a wheel or not. I'll stop before I start spitting venom.

Its totally irresponsible i agree with you Lin. our friend said she'd read in the press that he was 3 times over the limit if that's true they should throw the book at him, give him a red card and cart him off to jail.:-( hugs jan xx
Date: 9/2/2017 11:53:00 AM
Uh, oh, Jan - he got "outed" anyway. I think drunk drivers should serve mandatory jail time.

I have to agree with you sunlite but he will have a top lawyer and probably will just get a fine it depends how over the limit they are I guess:-( hugs jan xx

He should be setting an example to the young fans - but this time it was a very bad example. A fine is useless as they earn such stupid amounts of money it means little to them, it will be interesting to see what his new club Everton does now. If you drink and drive you get 'court':-) hugs jan xx
