L U S T painful groans scars of violence stigma throughout life blind justice humiliation note: this a screaming clamor for justice to my fellow Pinoys (both male and female) who are brutally raped and cruelly stripped of their dignity and dreams here in Saudi Arabia. Congrats on the win my friend!!!!! Well written piece on a tragic subject. Some countries it is the victim punished most. In some nations it is the victim only punished. Sad world where no justice exists!

yes!!!!! the victims being the ones punished... and I do hope the society empathized rather than putting the blame or seeing this tragic situation to the person.. rather we must be the way to bring back light to their lives... i mean going beyond that event...

To many crimes such as this are brushed under many countries religions and inept policing. Latterly India <8> Rape to me is like murder, you've taken away a life of freedom, and for me, damn the do gooders, end their life, and I don't care how it's done <*> James

Such for the word below Rape, to have it addressed to your poem is so apt. It's also a word like hundreds of others that in context, it's deemed so differently. It's purely down to what we perceive said word to be, and where it's used, and millions view and use it accordingly, James.........

Olive as you spend year after year here on the Soup you will begin to realize how many of us have suffered rape or physical or physiological abuse, many, many, wish only to forget and anger when the memories is brought back, personally I do not think the topic is written about enough in any venue, poetry, prose, movie and men are abused as well. For where will we be without all the pain we or those around us may suffer. I must say it opens our minds and creativity to even greater understanding. By writing something like this with a subject matter that others may find uncomfortable, you have lived. I also find it very thoughtful and compassionate of you.

gosh, Olive, I know nothing about this. Could you do a soupmail to me and tell me what it is about? I am not sure "desire" is a good word in the first stanza. Maybe lust, control or domination. They always say it is a crime of hatred and power. It's so evil! anyway, I like how you are speaking out.
