Put Yourself in their Shoes Poetry Contest

Our parents work hard in the soil Earning their livelihood through hard toil After school, we don’t go to play But help our parents carry the hay Enjoying the sweet breeze that blows We are here to reap the wheat that grows While children of our age find joy in play We find joy, helping our parents all day We stay close to our farm in a small house On our farm, you can spot grazing cows We also have goats and hens in our farm Which give us so much fun, free of harm Though we have never been wealthy With work and play we stay so healthy We don’t curse the darkness of the night But wait for the new day filled with light

Joy and purpose can be found in the simple life, hard work and togetherness builds good relationship in a family. IMHO I spent several summers on my aunt and uncles farm, I learned to pick cotton, feed the chickens and slop the pigs. I also learned to milk cows and put-up fence. It was hard work at times, but I always felt good at the end of the day and the meal severed country style were always filling. I enjoy your poem, Valsa. Good luck in the contest, my friend! Bill

Yes, the farm life is hard work, but the family is together learning about life and living each and every day. It has its good points and some hardships, but all in all it works out fine for most. Thanks for sharing this one and for dropping by my page. Sara

My wife grew up on a farm, so I am very familiar with the joy of such upbringing, and know personally the great, loving home-body people such early life produces. I know very wealthy people, who can't buy enough, who can't own enough -- whose souls seem in agony. Who look around them, at all, and yet feel they have nothing. Go figure. Maybe your fine poem embodies the answer.
