The dilapidated chapel tolled its dirge. Inside an old woman lay in a coffin. No mourners came to pay their respects. So easily forgotten by those Who needed her most in days of old, All relatives who should know better. Now they had no money to inherit. So they had long dismissed her from her needs. Except for one who was her carer And felt such pity to see her go. Alone she lay there. Death is irrevocable. A poor woman gone Hardly a decent coffin. Let the small bells toll. Not for the contest

Ahh!! So sad but that is the way it is sometimes with the woman of the home. She gives and gives but no one wants to give back. Have you ever read the book "The Giving Tree"? It is a child's book that so applies to life. I enjoyed reading your work. Thanks for the visit to my page. Sara

This stirring poem holds a sad truth for many. But when all other family is absent, the heavenly Father is still present. Kindest regards, Evelyn

This Gem moved me on multiple levels, and I could relate to some of the emotions felt. This truly saddened me. We were conveyed to the burial as a result of your detailed clues. God Bless the souls of the departed.

This is so sad. But the one soul is cause for a heart to be lifted. This poem reflects life people and death very well. Great way to advocate Victor.

So sad Victor, people should be loved for who they are and not for what they’ve got. An excellent write for something that happens all too often… Belle
