My world has changed so fast
it has caught me off guard.
I never dreamed I would see
the open hate and pervasive bigotry
that exists in the world today.
But then the internet came along
and shrunk the world to fit in your phone;
opening doors that were once impossible to open.
And yet, at the same time,
it gave every kook, grifter, charlatan, and conspirator,
once festering on the fringes of society, a bully pulpit;
to cater to a growing audience of like-minded followers.
Corruption, fear-mongering, and peddling lies
as alternative truths;
is entrenched in our government,
entertainment, and news.
World War Three, which was once unthinkable,
is gaining favorability with the masses;
fueled by cultist propaganda and doomsday bravado,
spreading like a virus on social media platforms.
We are polluting the land, poisoning the seas,
and brainwashing the minds of our youth;
with little regard for the truth.
I remember a time when people didn't lock their doors;
and neighbors greeted one another with a smile and a wave.
But today, I feel that we are all caught in a worldwide web
of technology's silken threads;
and sooner or later, we will be eaten.
