This is a poem I wrote when I was eleven years old and a young Christian.  A year later I surrendered to the call the be a preacher.  I preached a few times a year until I graduated from High School, then the Church Lisenced me to be a minister.  As a young Christian living in a very strict Christian family, I felt guilty of my sin all the time, because I wasn't acting like Jesus.

I want people to know how much we need to know about the love and grace of God as a young person.  To much emphaises on sin can be destructive.  Bless all of you that can relate.

Bill

Who am I? Let me see. A Christian? Yes, I try to be. But do you do God’s will each day? Oh yes, I read my Bible and pray. But do you tell others His love for you? Do you tell others the things He can do? Do you tell others of the gift He gives? Or do you live like your lost neighbor lives? Do you remember His gift of His son? Do you live for Jesus, are do you run? Is your heart afire or is it like coals? Do you go out and try to win souls? Or do you say, “Lord, I’m human you know. Give me some time, Lord; I’m trying to grow”. Don’t think like this, I’m thinking like a fool! I’m trying to fight God; I’m having a duel. Lord, I pray that you spirit will soon win, For my life is evil and full of sin. Oh Lord for thy guidance, I daily will pray. Lord, step by step and day by day.

I grew up in church too. Not the preacher's kid but with very active in the church parents. As a kid I always thought that to get to heaven you had to make a list of all the rules and check each of them off when you mastered it. You had to master the whole list to get to heaven. Silly line of thought really. Jesus had that list I never had to! Now I know as my relationship with Him grows my thoughts and my behavior changes. God isn't done with me, and thankfully hasn't given up yet.

The Holy Spirit was left with us by Jesus to guide and teach us. God is not through with any of us yep, and thank God He never gives up on us. Thank you for going back and reading some older poems of mine. Smiles ~ Blessings Bill

You were eleven? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? "But do you tell others His love for you? Do you tell others the things He can do? Do you tell others of the gift He gives? Or do you live like your lost neighbor lives?" You were an amazingly wise 11 year old Bil!

I was a preacher's kid, so I had the scriptures drilled into me all the time. I listened to the adults talk after church when they came to our house for coffee and dominos. Looking back, it was a lot of words that I had just heard a lot. I've always been a deep thinker though. People never knew because I was also a clown. Bill

It would be an outstanding poem to write at any age, for one as young as eleven amazing. A very special young man that grew up and practised what he preached. Thank you for sharing your lovely poem, Bill.

Bill that was an outstanding poem you wrote at the age of 11. You were predestined to go into the ministry as you were led by the Spirit at the age of 11. Enjoyed Blessings ~ Debra

What a conscientious and devout Christian you have been from young days. You were ruled by thoughts so mature, rarely found in a young boy ! Such solid questions you have asked yourself ! Stay blessed Bill!

Thank you for your loving comments, my dear friend, Valsa. Your spirit is encouraging, and your poetry God sent. It's a pleasure to know you through your poetry. Life has been a wonderful journey for me, but I still have questions. God is good, and His will is my path. Bill

Oh, how I remember similar thoughts as a youngster who only wanted to be like Jesus and feeling that everything I did quite naturally was somehow sinful. Oops!

Still say we're more alike than different, Milt. I think we may be "soul brothers". It'd take another lifetime to mesh together all of our different experiences though. May the Creator of all that is, bless and keep you, Bill

Thank you, Kim. Looking back, I know God was speaking to my heart, but I feel the organized church was sometimes getting a different message than what my soul was getting. I just want to use my free will to think, say, and do as the Spirit within me guides me. Everything from Love is my motto. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

Accepted Christ as my Savior at 9 and was very committed to organized religion. All in every chance I got. I was ahead of my age in the word only. Thanks for the comment, Jeff. Bill
