My Dream
When I was a small child,
A long, long time ago,
I dreamed I'd be a teacher,
When I grew up, you know.
I so admired those women
Who taught in country schools.
They must be versed in every subject,
With big books their only tools.
My school was blessed with two rooms,
Four grades were taught in each.
My teacher was Miss Holler
And she really was a peach.
Mr. Eable taught the other four
Grades number five to eight.
He was a dandy fellow
Whom the big boys loved to bait.
He only lasted one year,
Then Miss Holler's sister came.
It didn't take her long until
Those wild kids were quite tame.
I listened to all of the lessons
My beloved teachers taught.
And learned the others with my own.
That school was a learning pot.
I loved to read most any book.
The library was my Heaven.
I kept getting promoted too fast,
Starting high-school at eleven.
Too young to go away to school
When my high-school days were done,
I signed up for post graduate course,
Bookkeeping was the one.
I got a job as a bookkeeper
And I kept it for thirty years.
While raising a family of three
And teaching my own little dears.
