Making Streams
Ohbard and Pell meet up over lifetimes and dimensions
for exchanges and conversations:
sat two men of opposite age
on two boulders by a silted island in a stream
the togas worn with wet darkened hems
and the universe draped around their shoulders
in mid voice in mid animation
in progressive countering
they charged the weight of day
and swam through depths of night
and two summers passed
and two winters too
came still frown and laugh
and nods and shakes
among words that painted a masterpiece
as Zeus looked down transfixed
and thought aloud did Ohbard
his beard had whitened since
and the silted island had banked further along
he and Pell still had rocks to upturn
and the universe edged ever closer
to being solved
