Lost Inside This Wait

I wait while wandering in empty dreams, where everyone is lost and dying slow. And in the distance are, unheard, the screams of anguished souls I’ll never come to know. The winds blow hot or cold here, rarely cool. Leaves flutter out of sight, disintegrate. Relief, if ever found, is minuscule. I do not even know for what I wait! I’m drifting with the leaves as they change hue, concealed among them as they fall to ground. And as they crumble, I’ll be crumbling too, alone (as souls unknown hear not my sound). I ramble lost inside this wait I keep, unwilling to awaken from this sleep.

Apparently I saw this as I was working through your 2010 sonnets in August. I thought it had a familiar ring to it! Glad you found it. It's kind of a departure from your usual themes. Very well written.

Sounds like a horror movie dream (screams of anguished souls). I wonder if Stephen King dreams like this? If I know you, you're waiting around to see how the story ends! Nice write.

this is a journey all humans relate too, it resonates with me as each of your lines subtly invoke the sense of lonliness humanity (and surely I ) carry for at least some of there life. It can apply to so many scenarios but I fell the lonliness that drives me to try and connect with other lost souls who I'll never know and will never hear or understand me. Wow. A subtle and powerful emotionally charged metaphor talented tied together.
