La Ballade Pour Adeline

Note: In 1976, Richard Clayderman (real name Philippe Pagès) received a telephone call from a well-known French record producer, who was looking for a pianist to record a gentle piano ballad. Paul had composed this ballad as a tribute to his newborn second daughter “Adeline”. The 23-year-old Philippe Pagès was auditioned along with 20 other hopefuls and, to his amazement, he got the job. O sweet Adeline, born eyes open And a smile on her small lips. O delicious child I heard her gurgle As if she had heeded a joke. A tune raced in his mind and He knew it was urgent to put it on paper. The babe made noises of joy And the music echoed its tune, At times it was repetitive At times it sounded soft and sweet. But soon the babe raised her voice A repetitive mellifluous melody Lulling the babe to sleep. Dream little child, dream on Would that you have pleasant dreams, And may the Good God bless you forever.

A FAV my friend. Beautifully written poetry to go along with listening to the music. The introduction was inspiring, and the poetry touched my heart. Classical music opens my heart and mind leading me into a creative utopia. I've sat here listening to Clayderman on the piano for an hour. Thanks for the gift of this poem and this music, Victor. A very soothing hour of inspiration.

Continued ... It's touching to hear of fathers that love enough to compose or write poetry to honor those they love. It's very uplifting in a world that displays hate daily. We need more positive poetry and music. Bill

Oh my, what a lovely poem this is, dear Victor. You've so beautifully described how lil smiles of children, bring us joy and heartwarming bliss. The angelic voices they make ring like a mellifluous lullaby and their giggles are the sweetest.. What a true joy for parents! This write was so saccharine to read... Absolutely brought me so much happiness and profound serenity. Sending many best wishes and light to you, always. Keep writing and shining.

Dear Victor, I enjoyed the Clayderman story. Your poem is a tender and heartfelt ode to the beauty of innocence and the wonder of a child’s presence. I loved the imagery of joy, music, and the gentle embrace of sleep. The way you describe the child’s gurgles and laughter as if she had heeded a joke, coupled with the urgency to capture the tune racing in the mind, is incredibly evocative. It captures the essence of creativity and the profound connection between music and the human experience.
