Knowing Myself

I’m absolutely certain I’m not all that! Should someone want to dispute it, I’d say they have a serious problem I have the horn if they want to toot it. Though I do appreciate your compliments In fact, I might even respect your stance, Except, I would consider it rank arrogance I know my situation and my circumstance I have no logical room for arguments Now and then, I need to stop for a bit And ponder this continuing life theorem I am not the smartest, but I do have wit And I simply refuse to be treated like shat! written January 20, 2022 [my reverse rhyme scheme]

I am there with you, my poetic friend "I am not the smartest, but I do have wit" I guess we could change this to "we are not the smartest, but we do have wit". Trixie wants in on this too.

Okay by me. Some old, famous philosopher said, "Know thyself." I'm proud to say I've always tried to know me first and not to make any judgments about anyone else based on what I know about myself. Hmmm...that's quotable, too.

You certainly have wit, Milt… and, it seems, a fair amount of wisdom. Glad to read this isn’t part of an ongoing battle. I think I might pass on tooting your horn though! ;-) Terry

Aw, thanks. Mike, I always look forward to hearing from you. No, this poem wasn't written in response to anything in particular. It just seemed to be there, so I wrote it down.

No poet on this site should be mistreated in the way you and other fine poets have been insulted. Just yesterday I was blocked by the brazen one who dares to write that Poetry Soup is a place where poets can write what they please. Yes, but only those who agree with her biased assessment of politics, anti-vaccination, and anti-mask wearing. Your pen brings to fore her ridiculous behavior, and Milt, you have my admiration for doing so.

Aw, thanks, Lin. There seems to be a feeling among some that theirs are the only biases that are allowable on PS. Poetry Soup is best when the ingredients are varied, diverse, well-expressed, superbly defended, and left to simmer over time.

Brilliant. I enjoyed your poem, it had great flow and rhythm. I particularly enjoyed the last line. :-)

Thanks, Joanna. That's a good ol' American word that gets past the censors! Have a wonderful weekend.

Oh just seen you reply, below, and your poem does seem to fit the situation. The poetry is excellent, and also a clever general message to many that feels soup members are up for abuse. You have many, many fans here i for one, this comment is for the poetry, and also one of support. Harry

Oh, it's no big deal, Constance, and I do thank you for your support. It seems that a certain person on the site is actually sending Soup Mail to members saying that I am a Nazi. Can you imagine that? She has harassed several people, I understand. But, that's not why I wrote this poem. I wrote it to feel better about myself, and I do. Love and hugs to you!
