Just August

To us Indians, auspicious is the month of August. With joy coursing through every heart robust, We sing on 15th August, India’s freedom song. From all corners of the land its echoes ring. When sun beams playfully caress each face, Our tri colour flag flutters in every space. Day of deliverence, the nation celebrates! (It was on 15th August, our country was finally freed from the yoke of foreign rule through Non-violence, Gandhi’s creed) August.8.2022 ~ Placed First~ Just August Poetry Contest Sponsor- Andrea Dietrich

I have read about Gandhi and seen a movie about the work he did. I enjoyed reading your work about him. A very dedicated man to do what he did. Reads like a good contender to me. Your comments on my work added a delightful dimension to my page. Sara

Wow dear Valsa... I just loved this... This is SO apt for the contest, as far as we Indians are concerned... I could already see our Tricolor flag being set up even in all my friends' whatsApp dp that started a week ago .. in anticipation of our Independence Day celebration...so, for us Indians, August means our special day of importance of achieving freedom. To be frank, I too thought about this theme only, to write for this contest,... Haha... I will be soon finding a different theme... Big hugs... ~ Ani

What a wonderful thing to celebrate, the freedom of your country, such a sigh of relief, the 15th of August. The 15th of August for us is the name day of Jesus's mother Mary, so all the Marias'celebrate and its is a huge day for our Church as services held in Greek churches all over the world.. Seems the 15th august is an important and touching day for many, a great poem Valsa, really enjoyed it and good luck in Andreas contest, Hugs, blessings, Jennifer.

Hi Susan, with your comment you have doubled my sense of elation. Glad to understand, you too revere Gandhiji, the Father of our nation. He was indeed a 'Mahatma' (Great soul). I don't think my poem is all that great, but the sentiment behind it is truely genuine, coming from the heart and you have recognized it.Your great words are much appreciated....! Thanks a lot great poetess!
