The old tree is leaning badly in the forest as the man approaches ... Well, old timer I think its time for you to go? Have some respect son as I am over two hundred years old ! But, you are leaning badly and not that pleasant to look at ? Well, birds seem to like me and build their nests in my branches ! True I suppose, but you look like you are about to fall ? I have been leaning like this for the last one hundred years ! You see I have been sent to cut down all dying trees ? But, I tell you that I am not dying but just really, really old ! Oh, is that a baby bird on your gnarled branch ? Yes, there is a nest of baby birds just ready to fly away from my shelter ! I see squirrels running up and down your trunk too ? Yes, see they don't think of me as dead but a haven of protection ! But, what am I to do, it is my job to cut you down ? Well, you could just walk on by, son, there must be truly dead trees ! Yes, I could do that today, but others will come ? I know, each day is a battle for life but I will talk to them too ! Okay, old timer, I will leave you to your leaning ways, okay ? Thank you son, you will never regret making this decision today ! I could lose my job if it is ever found out, do you care ? Yes, I do but I know that if you cut me down it will haunt you forever ! No one will believe me when I tell them that I interviewed a tree ? True, perhaps it is something to keep between us, and do come visit ! I will old timer, just in case one day you do fall down ? I am laughing because does it really matter after over two hundred years !

Good entry for the contest, Contance. I liked your choice of a theme. People are like the tree in your poem, we just want to be able to do what we still can with being judged by others in a different stage of life. I may be old, but there are still some people out there and maybe in here that could use my help from time to time. I've expereienced a variety of things in my life and I can still think and write poetry to share some of those things with others. Smiles ~ Blessings Bill

Bill, thank you for the compliment and comment on my poem, yes, people though older are still important and useful, I feel that trees have souls and feel emotions, smiles and God Bless !

Nice conversation with dying tree. The tree may be 200 years old, but the spirits are forever young.
