I too have lost a lot of family to cancer. Recently within 5 years a 24 year old cousin to breast cancer. She was still a virgin who never stop believing she couldn't beat it. Her mom would die months later we think it broke her heart because she too had survived breast cancer. Great write to bring about awareness and conversations.

Early detection maybe cut away.

Early detection is the key. Some of my friends had never been to the doctor until they got ill.

I still remember the phone call… Sis: How you doing? Me: Great! Sis: Well, you won’t be after I tell you what I have to say Me: I grow somber Sis: Mom has cancer…months later mom feels victorious, rings the bell signifying her last chemo, shortly thereafter dies from an infection. Going through the worst sucks!

So sorry that you and your family had to experience such grief. Thinking that she was victorious over such an evil only to be laid low by infection, must have been devastating. Hugs to you and your family my friend.

No matter how many people you know that has been affected by cancer, you are never prepared to have this conversation.

I heard this conversation, my dad and the doctor. Not something anyone should have to go through, but we have to play the cards we're given. I read the comments below, so I know it's not you; I thankful for that. May my prayer comfort you as you reflect on those you love that have passed due to cancer, my friend. Blessings, Jerry Bill

Thank you so much Bill. So sorry for your loss. True, we will have to play the hand we're delt. I can say, if I was diagnosed, that I would do this or I would do that. But I hope I never have to find out.

My many thanks to you Ilene. My daughter and her husband are both cancer survivors. I am so grateful to modern medicine. But early detection is the answer. Many in my family were not so fortunate.

Jerry, I too, hope this is not true my friend. Those last few lines are heartbreaking and profound. Sending you a hug. Take care.

Thank you, Christina. I have not personally had cancer but the list of my family and friends who have suffered through it is an enormous one. Even one person is too many to have to have this conversation.

Not for me, but there are only 6 of the fifteen kids left in my family. Unfortunately, I am all too familiar with how this conversation goes.
