God What a Waste

I leave the waiting room at the doctor’s office and walk outside I notice a park bench and go over to take a seat I can’t help but start to reflect------ On years gone by When I was a younger man I spent many a day when I should have been in school ------ Sitting on a bench Just like this Drinking Smoking pot Playing Frisbee With all the other kids like me who were just to cool for school This was back in the days ----------------- Of long hair Peace signs And big bell Levi’s Back in those days the Police were much more liberal Than they are today They didn’t even trip on us as long as we acted like We were trying to hide our stash Sometimes they would even stop and joke around with us As I sit here today on this bench way wiser than my years------ Created by the hands I dealt myself I think of how short a time it actually was------ Between that stupid kid and this old man As I close my tablet and head back inside I hear myself say out loud God what a waste

Only wasted if you hadn't turned it around when given the opportunity. Everything has a purpose. You appreciate things more now because of all you've been through. Some have it much better but take it all for granted, never knowing struggle but then again never knowing love. Oh, By the way, that's what my wife says when she hangs up my pants "What a waist!!" God Bless. Vince

Very beautiful and reflective, but you need to understand that everything that happened, happened for a reason and made you a better man..You are alive to give your testimonies to so many others out there that are lost, and don't know which way to go... You writing is truly inspiring because it's proof that anything is possible, anyone can change their life around and make something better of themselves. You can lead your children down the right paths. You learned from your mistakes..Thank God

This is very different for you, Michael! What a reflective piece, and yes, the years certainly do bring us much closer to wisdom, teenagers live in the dangerzone moment - testing every boundary...now, we can just..sit. well done, I love this! Love, Kristin

Thank you for your comment I had no idea we were both reflecting pretty much the same thoughts. Enjoyed your poem, and remember we all have our dark days we wish we could change. I just thank God for sending His Son so we can be forgiven, Blessings Ron

Honey you are not a waste your time here is not over and some folks are harder to teach than others LOL. I had a teacher tell me, a Master Reiki teacher, you don't need to keep trying so hard to be good Debbie. You are good. "You know", she said. We are not called human doings. We are human beings. You have a purpose. You are loved. Debbie

No life is a waste, if what you've learned along the way can help others. I have said before and still mean it...there was a purpose by going through those days, making those mistakes, taking some wrong turns, wrong roads...you have a first hand knowledge of what others may be experiencing, ....seriously, Michael, if you can make a difference in just one young life, and I'm sure you already have....your life has been a gift. Feel good about who you are now! Love, Carrie

Michael the reflection is telling my friend....I've chosen to learn the hard way myself--we can embrace the years present and future as much as we squandered the past and help others by passing that wisdom without them having to trip in the same holes!! Thankyou for the congrats! Much love, Steve

You are tops in my book and consider you to be one of the kindest most wonderful people I know. Please do not look back, look forward for you have so many wonderful things ahead of you. Do not get down on yourself Michael, for you are an inspiration to all of us who teaches that life can change dramatically if we want it to. You are a living example that dreams come true. Be proud! Love you, Shar xoxo

You know Michael, I think you are being too hard on yourself. We all have our time of coming around. Sadly, there are some who never do.You can't look back and change the past because it is what has shaped you into the amazing person you are today. Therefore, it was not a waste. It was a difficult learning experience, and all the suffering and pain has turned around 100% to happiness and pride that not many can say they possess. If more people were like you it would be a beautiful world. YF4L

Michael, God had a plan for you, and everything you endured was a part of that plan, how else could He have opened your eyes, to give you wisdom so you could help others that have strayed, think about it..you are very wise, and you can redirect someone that is walking in those same shoes that you once wore, now, you speak from experience, you are a teacher , a leader, this is one of your many rewards...the gift of poetry, God is so good, He knows us inside, and out....always, Christy

Mic hael, I can certainly understand and agree with this and the feelings contained therein. I've had my share of wasted years, the Eagles had a song about it, "Wasted Time". Excellent write and so well laid out, but if not for the past, remember, you would not be the man you are today. Michael
