God What a Waste
I leave the waiting room at the doctor’s office and walk outside
I notice a park bench and go over to take a seat
I can’t help but start to reflect------
On years gone by
When I was a younger man
I spent many a day when I should have been in school ------
Sitting on a bench
Just like this
Drinking
Smoking pot
Playing Frisbee
With all the other kids like me who were just to cool for school
This was back in the days -----------------
Of long hair
Peace signs
And big bell Levi’s
Back in those days the Police were much more liberal
Than they are today
They didn’t even trip on us as long as we acted like
We were trying to hide our stash
Sometimes they would even stop and joke around with us
As I sit here today on this bench way wiser than my years------
Created by the hands I dealt myself
I think of how short a time it actually was------
Between that stupid kid and this old man
As I close my tablet and head back inside I hear myself say out loud
God what a waste
