Gift
The first time I met you,
I didn’t have an iota of idea
that across the span of the yearning years
to the matchless closeness this would grow,
and endure through time amidst smiles and tears.
We walked desire in the garden path together,
felt the flower called love bloom in splendor,
turning to a butterfly I flew in your fragrance.
We had promised us then,
nothing would set us apart.
As our entwined footprints fade away as ordained,
on the receding trail of the passionate past,
in my last mile walk you're my best friend by my side.
While the twilight gleam of the spent sun wanes fast,
I feel blessed for you’re the precious gift God gave me.
In my journey across the undulating terrain of life,
through the blizzard in the winter of despair,
and along the valley of flowers in the spring of delight,
I was never alone,
for with me I always found you, my wife.
