Emptiness

I am full Of emptiness I long for longing Crave contentment The insensate pain Of intangible touch Indecipherable ciphers Choreographed madness Craggy comfort Of blunt condolence The decorum of anarchy Deserted crowds, social solitude Miles given to intercept steps At the dawn of abundance I see only bones of ghosts Whose meager admonishment I forgot to unlearn Unredeemed And unrepentant I am in love With loneliness. 9/20/19

Michelle, I came back to this diamond today to help me better grasp your new poem "Lift Me" as I feel they are coming from a similar place. I call it a diamond because it is thing of beauty created my immeasurable pressure in a dark place over a long period of time. Writing about depression is no cakewalk, and you have created an amazing work of art.

Your "10 Poems That Define Me" list alludes to the source of this write, and its significance in your life. Your dichotomies and oxymorons do a great job of painting the darkness and your search for the light. So many excellent word pairings, and you often have a wonderful way of packing a lot of meaning into your last two lines. Well done!

This is powerfully written! The way you started off the poem with, "I am full" is very impactful to the message of finding comfort in and being in love with loneliness. I feel the same way.

I'm reading this again and again 'cause it is amazing. How you paired all those contrasting things and made them harmonize. "I long for longing" may be my favorite--but it is hard to choose!

this is really interesting, Michelle. I love the contrasts here of love and loneliness, being full (of emtiness) etc. I kind of relate to this one because I am basically a loner who goes to movies by myself and just hangs out in emails, Soup and my tv shows. However, I am not lonely. So that was strange to me how you said "in love with loneliness" Wonderfully done.

Funny. You have described me to a 'T.' And that admission -- 'I am in love with loneliness' -- hurts more than most people can imagine. Thanks, Michelle. ~ gw
