I wonder if he thought, "I heard the owl call my name". I enjoyed reading this one today. Around here the hunters do an owl's call to get the deer to come. Strange isn't it. Thanks for sharing this one and for dropping by my page. Sara

The first two lines provide the setting for an eerie chilly atmosphere, Susan. Even the deer hunter is lost for words and bravado! ~ Warm regards & hugs dear friend. // paul

I wonder, as does the hunter why the owl screeched, is it an ominous visit of a predator like a bear or a wolf, the hunter as so vividly described in your wonderful Haiku, is now wary and afraid. Your choice of words gives a detailed image of this scene. Kudos my friend Susan. Love and hugs poetry sis.

Hello Susan Ashely, I do not like it when it is deer hunting season. To kill a sweet deer I feel is so wrong. Hugs,

They can sound eerie. We had one who made very frequent visits to our yard about fourteen years ago or so. My kids thought there was a ghost in the yard. I love owls, they are so awesome, but can be spooky!
