Hi Bill. Dust Devils are rare in England but your haiku had me Googling them. One description I found stated: "When a dust devil goes by it blows away the coating and exposes the underlying dark surface." It had me thinking that they could make for great metaphors in poetry. Cheers - Gary

Maybe one will hit Washington D.C. here in the U.S.A. I agree, a good metaphor for our poems. Have a great weekend, my friend. Cheers! Bill

They are pretty common here, and sometimes can be very scary! I once tried to outrun a big one on my way home from school as a child, but I couldn't! I was so close to home, and saw it blow our family's cab over camper over and knock down the fence before it got to me!! Happily, the fence portion in front of our home was sturdy enough to hang onto when that thing got to me, I felt like I was being sanded! I held onto that fence for dear life. I always wanted to be able to fly, but not like that!

A delight! I Love turtles. Even been looking into getting a tortoise here lately. They were my first pet back in the day when you could buy the little guys. I have a turtle broach. As i write this, i’m wearing a sterling two turtle ring. Fav. Hugs.

Hi Sally, I think you meant to put this comment on my poem, "Turtle" instead of on this one, "Dust Devil". No problem, just letting you know. Thanks for reading and commenting on my poetry. :-) Bill

Sometimes they're called dust devil or dervishes across the southwest U.S., Deb. Interesting that different countries have different names for them. Thanks for the visit my friend. Bill

I love this one, Bill, and I, too, have seen my share of these buggers in my growing-up-in-West Texas days.

I remember those swirling dervishes cutting their way across the Chihuahan Desert outside El Paso. They always fascinated me. You captured the image beautifully. Your wife, Sara Etgen-Baker
