Downhearted

"Behind gleams of sunshine, remember, there are dark shadows lurking" ~By Poet At times, our heart becomes, A labyrinth of dark thoughts Letting no rays of hope in Making our world seem a wilderness. Tangled with nettles and brambles. The road we travel may appear circuitous, Taking us nowhere, leaving us fatigued Sometimes weariness sets in Like molten lead into our brain Sending out smoke and heat Like an overheated pan Even the drops of consoling words Instantly evaporate with a hiss Causing scalding and burning. Downhearted we become, For reasons unknown! Feb. 8.2023 Writing Challenge- D Words, Poetry Contest Sponsor- Constance La France

So true, Valsa. Our lives are full of the emotions of life. Deep and moving poetry my dear friend. I've been gone since Nov, but have finally made it back home. My wife is getting better and her shoulder is almost healed. Just physical therapy twice and week now, for another couple of months. I lokk forward to reading and commenting on your poetry again, I've missed it. :-) Smiles ~ Blessings Bill

"Sometimes weariness sets in Like molten lead into our brain Sending out smoke and heat Like an overheated pan" -- Marvelous, original expression. The entire poem a masterpiece. Only the bad burns. We learn to welcome such fires...rising as that Great Phoenix. Fire cannot scorch the good, immortal spirit and its soul.

Wonderful poem, Vasa. You have successfully captured an atmosphere that cannot be shaken away. An appropriate picture for such an emotive piece. There are times when our souls change into, A labyrinth of troubling thoughts Keeping any flicker of hope at bay... Life is genuinely awful when there is no brightness or optimism.
