Darkness Where Now Poe and Raven Reside, Part Six - of Six Total

Darkness Where Now Poe And Raven Reside, (Part Six) - Of Six Total Raven summoned up beasts from far below Sent them into all the now empty cells This was Poe's great genius, done just for show His pen, had set Raven under his spell. Poe brought gate-guards down from upper tiers Next ordered open, those levels cell doors Thus gave a chance to those fleeing with fear For Raven's might, he chose not to ignore! Poe saw his clever plan was going well An escape map he gave to Annabel Yet again his magic pen cast a spell And into a deep pit Raven then fell. Alas! He forgot dogs guarding last gate Those eight and each one as big as a horse Thinking and writing, he then challenged Fate By verse magic, set a new escape course. Poe ran with Hero and his Annabel Through secret corridor only he knew Freedom almost there, Annabel then fell For Raven woke, broke binding chains into. Up from that deep dark pit in angry flight Fury's swell, in devilish evil chest Raven cried out, Dark Lord resume my might I live in dark vengeance, I do not rest! Annabel now under Raven's dark trance She was unconscious, unable to stand Raven now standing at freedom's entrance barring way into another realm's land. Hero then cried out, Raven you are mine Your awesome powers will not save you now My shield and sword are blessed by Light's shine I will destroy you, tho' I know not how. Poe said, only to my might will it yield For I wrote its existence, gave its might Carry my Love away upon thy shield My pen will compose your successful flight. Raven laughed, saying, relax they are gone She is safe and your aching heart may rest Yes friend, now we both are doomed and alone Master, did I play my evil part best? Robert J. I love a surprise ending and this surely was a surprise. I enjoyed reading this wonderfully written and interesting tale so much, Robert. Congratulations on being one of the very best poets/writers I've had the pleasure of "meeting" here on the soup! Carole :D

Thank you my dear friend. Your reply is a great gift to me and your poetry also gifts to its readers. I do put quite a bit of extra effort into anything I write if it concerns Edgar Allan Poe. On the off chance that he somehow may be reading it..

Robert, you and I are soulmates of a sort, I believe, as we both gravitate to writing with a darker-edged pen, and yet find such beauty and substance and richness in those shadows. This is absolutely wonderful, and I thank you so much for the heads-up ... I have little time to read and comment these days, but this was a worthwhile expenditure of time, and I was captivated by the imagery and phrasing, and touched by the story.

Thank you my friend. Seems poetry will not just let me rest , My Poet Brother! I woke at 3am this morn, and inked a bit of poetry, three poems two short ones and the start of another very long one(hint, over its verses the Raven's dark shadow flew and Poe's imagination sounded).

Thank you my dear friend. My friend, my pen started dancing earlier this morn. Raven woke me and Poe said- Good morning young man, how about you ink something today? I replied, my pleasure what shall it be? Raven said-- "make it about me." Poe said only- "dear poet, good and dark let it be"!! My muse said, "OH NO, HERE WE GO AGAIN"!!

Annabel is saved! Great story of light over darkness; I have no doubt that Poe is still writing, somewhere in the afterlife with Raven at his side.

Thank you my friend. Wouldnt it be great if Poe could somehow write and send his poetry into our world now? Poetry so desperately needs another Poe, IMHO..

A true, I underline, a true poet may write skies and hell. That's the essence of writing. I'm sure you know it. You've brought to life a supporting character, a Hero, and suddenly he happened to be an angel to rescue Poe from hell. And maybe you and me, who knows? I love this magic)

I can see Poe at a desk with a lamp in a dark room writing, and you in a doorway watching and absorbing.

In some of the most perilous moments of my life, when I knew I had to do something but knew not what I silently asked God to take over, for I was at a complete loss. He always has. "My shield and sword are blessed by Light's shine I will destroy you, tho' I know not how." This reminded me of those times, Robert. So thank you for these lines. They endeared my heart to herself and validated me.

Thank you my friend. Dark is the absence if Light, yet the dark is not an empty void, it has evil within, seeking a way out into the light to try to destroy it. Your faith rewarded you and that blessing was a deserved gift!

"Raven laughed, saying, relax they are gone. Master, did I play my evil part best?" Wow!!! And I would say YES!! Not only did She play the part, Poe did as well. And YOU my dear friend have played an Important Part indeed, as you have created this amazing story. Thank you for sharing your talent with everyone here. My best to you!! ~ Brandy

Thank you my friend. I am quite content to enjoy reading and writing poetry. Enjoy the fellowship of other poets. Learn from other poets and hopefully be able to give back to show my appreciation for such blessings.

Poe was not a happy man from what I know. You were able to capture the demons and struggle of his short life wonderfully. Very clever to put Poe in a tale where he was the writer and also a main character. Fantastic piece of work. I don't know if there is a poem of the year but this would qualify. Well done my friend. Have a great day.

Thank you my friend. You have that right, Poe was not a happy man. And his private life was not a peaceful state. Yet in his work, he was brilliant, extremely intelligent, studious and creative as in a constant state of genius! I am truly delighted that you so enjoyed this Poe/Raven series my friend..

Oh, my, I was so involved with this story that I forgot the main principle of writing: the author and his creation are the same thing. You can save your ladylove from hell, but you can't save yourself from the hell you created. Once written Raven can't be written back like nothing happened. He exists. And I agree with his existence. I don't mind hell, but it must be the hell written by me. It was great, Robert. My words as usual are staying out when I want to say smth important. GREAT!

My friend, you has assessed it so well with your very welcomed post. Both Poe and Raven are bound to the pit, Poe can not simply write his way out of it, but he eventually found that he could write others out of fit due to the inherent might of his pen! Thus he devised the plan and played along until he could execute it- that came only when (mortal) Hero came into the deep dark pit!

Yes, alone in a gloomy pit... Just the way Poe would like it! He did seem to love misery so. Enjoyed this story very much Robert. :)

Thank you my friend. I did my best not to veer too far away from the Poe that so many know and love for his dark writings. And to stay true to his love for Annabel Lee. Your kind words tells me such has been a success and I thank you.

Robert, from 1 to 6 this has been one poetic masterpiece of verse. You have set a very high standard in your work, that I and others would struggle to follow. Tom.

Thank you my friend. So very kind of you to say so. I only wrote what my muse and I felt was a representation of both Poe and the Raven. That it meets with such a positive appraisal is both a gift and a blessing to me..
