Why do I forever need
to remind myself
to look beyond the mirror?
I’ll never find the old me
behind what’s faded and wilted.
It’s gone with the passing of time.
Time that was all too short.
I really thought it would go on forever.
And now it’s gone.
All I have left are the crumbs
of what’s called wisdom
and I constantly remind myself…
To remember what I traded to acquire it.
And not be so shocked every time
I happen to glance towards that mirror.
