Childish Fantasies

Being an adult means you obey rules,
question bad decisions, and go to work.
And feigning tolerance for inept fools
who act like jerks or simply go berserk.
Responsibility looms in the wings
when innocence begins to disappear.
And you no longer get away with things;
quickly learning, never to volunteer.
Eager to play your role upon life's stage;
you put away your illusions of youth.
And your endless world shrinks to fit your age;
trading tall tales for reality's truth.
In time, new feelings slowly start to stir,
and childish fantasies begin to blur.
