Hi Sara. Good Afternoon. I love titles so I turned to this entry. I could speak of the symbol of captive birds all day. No one no bird should ever be captive and never know the feeling of being captive. That is the bottom line of it all. Thank you for such an entry and for spreading awareness of such a situation. May today be a great day showing all things good for you and Bill. Have a wonderful weekend. Love Peace and Blessings always. (smile)

good evening, dear Lisa. I'm glad the title of my poem attracted you to the poem itself. I agree, no one should be held captive and having never known freedom. I know people like that, though. Sad. Thanks for your lovely and positive wishes for Bill and I. You're a dear friend and I'm grateful for you and your presence in our lives. Blessings and hugs, Sara

So profoundly true Sara, this says so much in such few lines. My sister and I had two parakeets when young, Petey and Tweety. Sad to see them caged, we would close our bedroom door and let them fly. My own kids asked for parakeets when they were young, but I encouraged them to befriend freely flying birds, we could buy seed and see what kinds came to visit. As young adults they still love to scatter seed and enjoy varieties of freely visiting birds, so fun to enjoy and watch, no cages! :)

thanks for stopping by, BJ, and for sharing your parakeet story about Petey and Tweety...how kind of you to set them free by closing your bedroom door. I also had a parakeet named Petey. He was a precious pet growing up. Your story about your kids and befriending the native birds was touching and inspirational. Have a great evening, Sara

How wise words Sara! So true. Birds shouldn't know what a cage is. They are born with wings to enjoy freedom. Now I make this my Fav. because it's deserved. Thank you my dearest friend for sharing this to the world. Love/ María

awww, thank you Maria, for your thoughtful words. I agree birds shouldn't know what a cage is no more than a human should. Thank you for faving my poem. I appreciate you and your visits. Have a lovely evening, Sara

Gosh Sara where do you get them? I'd love to be in your mind for just one moment to pluck all those lovely introspective thoughts that make up you. Faving the art and the diamond line, both exquisite. I have a bird named Charlie, Parakeet. 1st day I brought him home I cried for his freedom. His cage is always open he comes in and out, one day he closed the door himself with his beak, that says it all. love xo

awww...such sweet comments, dear Rose! thank you from the bottom of my heart. Charlie sounds like a delightful parakeet. You are soulfully kind giving him his freedom...how clever that he learned to close the cage door with his beak. Priceless! Thanks for your visit. You're a dear, sweet friend. hugs, Sara

Nice pic. I blinked. Are we all - possibly - in cages during parts of our lives?

Indeed. Too much brainwashing these days, in the guise of freedom. But...awaken them slowly, carefully...or they may feel little more than shadows, frantic with light.

I agree with your insightful and powerful comments, Joe....way too much brainwashing done in the guise of freedom...it's called propagandizing...so many fall for it. Sad. Have a great day, Sara

Some of us in one way or another have had our wings clipped. Freedom should be allowed. Some of us learn at a late age that we can fly. Thank you for sharing this lovely poem. May you and hubby have a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year. Hugs my friend.

I appreciate your words...agree...in one way or another we humans have had our wings clipped at some point. True, some don't discover they can 'fly' until later in adult life. Thanks for your holiday wishes. Have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year, hugs & blessings, Sara

thank you, Anne-Lise, for your visit and comments. We all have metaphorical wings and should be able to fly. enjoy your evening, Sara

You are right and this is a powerful message and so many suffer in this way.. when someone is told they are not good enough that is what they will think, especially in childhood, it stays with you in adulthood... unless someone comes along and helps you overcome this way of thinking..

I appreciate your visit, Silent One, and your insightful comments. Children and adults are often placed in metaphorical cages. I feel for those individuals who are squelched just so someone else can feel powerful. Sad. Have a great evening, Sara

Love your use of metaphors Sara, only this morning I was reading about the poor women in Afghanistan, I thought my God they've gone back to the dark ages. Thank God we live in a free world and God bless our military who protect that freedom. Enjoy your weekend. Tom

thank you, Tom, for visiting and for sharing your story. Sad that others don't enjoy the freedoms we have. I perceive there are those who, however, want to squelch those freedoms...scary times. Have a great evening, Sara

I have to praise you for your excellent and one-of-a-kind Monoku, dear Sara. It's an intriguing paradox since it dives into the concept of freedom, with birds imprisoned against their choice within the limits of a cage, perceiving flying as an incurable ailment. I can see a human being born in prison returning to his home the day after he is released.

I'm grateful, dear Sotto, that you saw the depth in my Monoku. You understood the paradox I created...and I'm glad you did. Your insights and comments mean a great deal to me. Thanks for your visit. Wishing you well, your poetess friend in Texas, Sara

Wow this is so powerful and it made me tear up, i feel for those children born to a cage and feel like there is nothing else in their lives or theres no world beyond the cage within that they breathe in. This poem truly touched my soul. Monoku it is but this one liner speaks volumes. And the picture goes so well with it. You think so deep from your heart and i see that everytime i read your work. Even a one liner is soulful. Fave this is for me, sending you light always

aww, thank you Ink!! I'm grateful my Monoku touched you in a deep and profound way. I, too, feel for children born in a cage (both real and metaphorical) for they don't see what's beyond their cage. More than sad. I, too, thought the picture was perfect. Grateful for your heart-felt response and for the fave. You're a wonderfully supportive poetess friend. Have a great evening, hugs, Sara
