For Craig Cornish's Blue Cheese and Old Pickles contest. An attempt to personify the preservation process of cheese and pickle making and transpose it to poetry.
you want preservation? the in-between doesn't work don't try too hard to walk the middle line not enough acid nor any real warmth me, I want transformation to be a delicacy of the highest order not bitter sweet fermentation to be acceptable to all palates forget it! toxic positivity "everything is wonderful" yeah, whilst we all rot in a bland hell! write to cause an ionic reaction let the saltwater heal your open wounds
pickle me this, pickle me that give me meaning not some poetic chit chat blue veins need the alchemy of blood running cold free spirits suffocate when hermetically controlled

I can relate to this, DD :) 'toxic positivity "everything is wonderful" yeah, whilst we all rot in a bland hell!' Great lines! Some pallets suffer in the name of art - and should be encouraged. ;) Congrats on your 1st place win.

Thanks Anaya! I wrote it when in a jokey mood, I'd never have written it seriously. The inspiration came from my due diligence of reading up on pickles and cheese making haha. It's a different take on the theme, it's a tricky prompt for sure. Thanks for your comment :)

Nothing cheesy going on here Dilly, just someone craving the main course and anything else that’s going, certainly don’t want anything bland (write to cause an ionic reaction, let the saltwater heal your open wounds) now your talking, refreshed and alive now, like after a workout, great one for contest, cheers David

Thank David, the aim was to make it original although we'll have to wait and see how it fares in the contest. Thanks for your support, appreciated

Dear DD, What a profound and powerful write this is! I wouldnt havr thought of writing one like this for the prompt, and i think mostly in metaphors when i write, so this really is impressive how youve in a subtle manner played around with words that go with pickle and blue cheese and how it gives this energy of a resilient woman, that wouldnt shake or wouldnt let anyone dim their flame of resilience! And i love the way youv mentioned also toxic positivity! Its something i cant stand altho i do believe in the power of manifestation! And yes one should be firm and know and choose what they stand up for , this line speaks to me "the in-between doesn't work don't try too hard to walk the middle line" speaks volumes! Youv nailed it i think this will do well! Best wishes for the contest! Will i get time to write for this? Such a strong and empowering response on so many levels! pleasure reading your poem.

You are so kind Ink! You see a lot of toxic positivity around and I just think people need to be authentic. Certainly with poetry, putting yourself truly into a poem (not necessarily this one!) can make a world of difference. It bottles the actual emotions felt like magic. Plus art in general is about personal taste. Even a masterpiece shouldn't appeal to everyone. I actually love pickles, the more artisan the better for me haha. Strange poem but we'll see how it fares. Thank you for your supportive words :)

You have a wicked proclivity for just saying what you feel whether anyone gets it or not, and I mean that in the best possible way of a complement. Don't feed me toxins and don't try to pickle me. You're a free spirit who will not be reined in... thank goodness...Good luck!

I never know what will please Craig and don’t enter many of his contests, but I was intrigued by the marriage of blue cheese and old pickles. Sounds like a combination guaranteed to make one barf or the craving of a pregnant woman!

I'd written a few random expressions down and didn't think it was taking shape then I got all exclamation marky with it and googled a bit of cheese and pickle knowledge and this appeared haha. I'm almost embarrassed about that delicacy line - that was more about a good pickle than myself haha. I've no idea if it's Craig's taste but it is unlikely to be one of many similar ones, which is my usual aim. Thanks for your comment haha
