I'm a basketballer Bill, and I love to hit those threes. Still hitting them at 62 and went ten for ten on my free throws the other day. Of course, I can't do full court anymore. Thanks for reminding me of my love for the game with your short poem

I was lucky it didn't kill me. I should have known better, Sara kept telling me I was going to kill myself. LOL All water under the bridge now. Just didn't want to quit doing the things I love to do. I had to give up golf too. Now it's just walk an hour every day and 2 days a week at the health club for workouts. The workouts are getting close to the end also. Getting old is not that much fun for people that have been active all their lives. :-) I shouldn't complain, I'm heathy and still able to drive and get around. God is good!

70? Wow. I made it to 57 before I "retired" from playing with the young guys. My knees were begging me for years lol

I finally had to quit playing with 40 somethings 9 years ago at 70. Hurt my ankle a few times and it took weeks to heal. :-) It was time to give it up. Glad you're still at it, Tom, great exercise and fun. A plus that you still have the free throw touch, and the threes are always fun. Keep it up, my friend.

Still a victory...but like you say, nothing but net. There are greater heroes. Blessings my friend.

The coach and poet on steroids, Bill! Your poem perfectly expresses anticipation, stress, hope, relief and ultimate happiness. If this is for a contest, I hope it brings you a win! Having played basketball, I was right there with you! Gratitude and blessings. Happy Thanksgiving!

Dear Bill, happy thanksgiving, i hope you and your family will have a lovely one. I love this lanterne, so unique and different on a subject that is not often written about. I can see that you love sports and how much you enjoy them through this write itself, as im not a fan of basketball, i dont know much about the game, im more of a soccer person. I hope your having a beautiful day. Pleasure always reading your various themed poems. Sending you light always

...and the fade-away is GOOD! Nicely done, Bill. Standing at 5'7-1/2" basketball wasn't my strong sport (lol). But at 63 yrs young I still play second base on a fast-pitch baseball league on my sons team. Have a nice day, Charlie

Great imagery, Bill. My opinion of basket ball; Where are all the short people? When it comes to hiring players the qualification is they have to be very tall so they can win. I feel that is cheating. Awe, thank you for the congratulations on the poems entered for the book. I did submit 3, but one was a shape, "Resurrection"

I have to say I loved the game but it had no love for a kid 5'9" with tiny hands, short arms, and a 18" vertical.

I played in High School and College. I didn't hit 5' until my Freshman year in college. I graduated from one of the largest high schools in Texas and a former team I played on won the State Championship my senior year. I certain understand the disadvantage of being under 6' tall. :-) Thanks for the comments, my friend. Have a great week! Go to see you again, Bill

'In his sleep' ... 'Onions, baby, onions' ... 'Book it!' Some memories of life for me between age 14 - 40, filled with basketball above all else... Now, is the ball still round?! lol. ~ Ex-cager

It's got to be smaller the way these guys shoot these days. Glad you enjoyed basketball as I did. We should have known each other in our teens, gw. I know we would have been good friends. Bill

This is a brilliant lanterne poem my dear poet friend Bill. Basketball is your favorite I bet. Likewise. I love watching basketball games and I played once when I was working in a boys' school. I joined the women teachers' group. My main role was to grab/get the ball and pass to the tall ones. I enjoyed your lanterne a lot. Thanks a lot for sharing and for reading my poems. God bless you always and your writings. Hugs
