High above the ground bald eagles Fly, legs tucked in, they soar and glide Rely on wings to cut, drag air By clouds and mountains flap with pride. They search for prey with focused eyes Display no mercy, downward dart, Obey their instinct, nature’s gift Slay with intent, not faint of heart! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Contest: Let's Write a Lento (Prompt) Sponsor: Dear Heart Rhyme scheme is abcb, defe. Didn't even realize I was reading a lento ... I only tried this form once or twice, but found it quite the challenge to get those beginning rhymes in and not sound overly stilted. This one was well done ... and with a noble subject matter.

Thank you for stopping by, Timothy. Rhyming the first word of each line can be tricky, so I just write the poem roughly and then insert the requisites at the end. ~ Regards // paul

not surprised you won again, Paul. You obviously love poetry. on Nature, I see leopards (lions, of course) stalk and chase after prey (deer/antelope) & I wish they prey gets away. But these carnivores eat only when hungry ... go days/weeks without food. Including Amazon pythons! Thx & shalom

Bald eagles are beautiful creatures! Did you know iowa has many of them here? You can stand on a bridge downtown look up and see at least two soaring by at any time of the day! I do love that about Iowa! They return to their nest from each year too! We had a big thing where they had to remove two adults with two eggs from downtown people were messing with them! But lovely write Paul!;)

Hi Brenda...your comments made me go look up Iowa and eagles, of which bald and golden ones seem to be the most common, and best viewing time is winter, along the Mississippi River. ~ Thank you for the informative visit. Warm regards // paul

The bird looks beautiful, yet fierce in its flight--that is what your poem depicts illustrating its intentions--so much you said in so few words, Paul.
