As Innocence Changes

If innocence is as observed by me, A carefree behavior is all we see. In Its presence we know not, right from wrong, And we will soon learn, and it won’t take long. In youth it appears when we’re having fun. Innocence has faces, there’s more than one. We see the changes as we run and play. Living life changes us, day after day. Our innocence changes as we mature, Both joys and sorrows we’ve learned to endure. First a child crawls, before walking the floor. We grow through innocence, then it’s no more. Innocence is changing, there’s no debate, The passing of innocence is its fate.

losing one's innocence reminds me of the crab that must lose its shell and create a new one--during that time being left vulnerable. As we let go of our innocence, we're truly vulnerable but better and more mature in the long run.

So true, Sara. No risk or growth, no reward or maturity. Have a great week! Bill

You never grow old when you can see things through the eyes of a child. At least that’s what my grandchildren tell me. They grow up so fast. A wonderful sonnet Bill. Blessings xxoo

Hi Bill, as children we were totally innocent ! Bur as we grow older, innocence too changes and reaches a state when we are no more innocent.... ! Life experiences teach us to be crafty ! A sonnet doing full justice to the topic under discussion .

We cannot remain innocent forever Bill. We normally replace it with experience and wisdom as the years go by. Still, no greater joy then remembering those beautiful years of awe and guileless existence. Thankyou for sharing . I really enjoyed your poem.
