An Immutable World
Come softly to the immutable world
of a loved one with Alzheimer's disease
where one memory is as precious pearl
and the process of is no longer ease
Bereft of all time, knowledge, place and self
demurely calm with mood controlling drugs
victims of a formidable foe of stealth,
surer hands guide the tenuous with love.
Remember that our fragile minds are brittle.
Recall shatters with each passing interlude.
As moments fly we can think of very little
that just happen right before us in our view.
Close your eyes when you visit someone next.
Now name all the things in the room of red.
You’ll see that you cannot create that sketch
and be shocked by what does not stay in your head.
