A Priceless Gift

"Each experience is locked within my heart and only I hold the key"...The Rambling Poet My young husband has reluctantly left for his work, leaving the two of us for the day. Amazingly I have no fear that I’m not up to the responsibility. Just yesterday we brought him home, our new son, our first child. This night at home had gone well. When he awakened hungry, I had taken him into the warm bed with us to nurse and then had tucked him back into the cradle close by. It is early March and the house is cool. His daddy had brought him to me this morning when our son had announced his hunger again. Now we are alone for the first time. Our bed is warm and inviting. This small creature is completely helpless and dependent on me. My heart swells with love as I feel the warm milk flowing. I caress his downy head and know without thinking about it that I would die for this small being. It’s as though my own life is just beginning. The awe and wonder of it is beginning to seep in. My baby, my perfect son, the love of my life. I will remember this moment forever as the exact time when my life changed and I realized the true extent of the marvelous gift bestowed upon me by a loving God. Wonderful, Joyce, pure magic in this one. I recall these days myself. I really enjoyed nursing (once they finally took to it, both my kids were slow to "catch on" haha) I used to go to sleep there in the bed while they nursed. They say not to do that, but I never change postions in my sleep. Always stay in the same spot all night! anyway, congrats. It sure brought back memories for me too.

Like Dan said Joyce this is very touching. You are truly, truly talented and can write so many different 'ways'. That is also what I aspire to be like-you are such a good person to look for for inspiration. Love, Natalie

I bet you would have given your own life for your baby boy, Joyce. Indeed, nurturing such a "dependent" small creature is very heartwarming. Of course, I can only relate to the feelings of raising kittens, but I'm so glad you shared this "fragment" of your life with us. Beautiful entry for the contest! Love, Carolyn
