~ the nameless ebony bird sings so mournfully - the wind lifts your wings ~ poet's quote A gaping hole in the ground No tombstone or roses White painted tiny coffin angelic hands in prayer A simple metal plate with a number No tolerance for fake tears Justice must be a promise Newborn child with the right to life left under a bridge, naked wrapped in a dirty plastic bag The child didn't have a chance in twenty-three minus degrees A mother and father abandoned his responsibility their horrible secret remains a dark shadow

Dear Anne-Lise, This is horrific. The cruelty of some humans is unbelievable. You have depicted this sad story in such a masterly way. It breaks my heart though. Thank you for your immense talent and your rare ability to paint such a harsh and blatant reality.

A tragedy beyond words, Anne-Lise. Thank you for reminding us of the atrocities being committed to helpless children and babies. It may have been a blessing to the child, it would have had those people as parents, terrible situation. It so much better to leave at a hospital or fire station so it can be given new parents. I want to congratulate you on having three poems published in the latest Poetry Soup Anthology, Anne-Lise! YEAH !!! Have a great week, my friend. Hugs, Bill

I felt like crying along with many others who I am sure have cried when they heard or saw such news. Someone who wanted a child would have loved to give that child a home. Thank you for sharing this one with us and for your nice visits to my page. Sara K

It is heartbreaking that a vulnerable baby was abandoned when many could have welcomed an unwanted child. Very well crafted, Anne-Lise, best of luck with the contest

So sad that a new born child was abandoned that way, there’s so many that would have taken an unwanted baby on. Belle

You can run but you can't hide. God will get them for that. A fie write my friend. I say if you don't want the baby give it to someone who does. Don't kill it. God Bless, JB

- I agree, Judy.. many people want children but can't have them... the right "paper" is required to be able to give away a child... not all people are able to do it... don't have the resources or knowledge ... (the weakest people in our society) - Many thanks for your comment :) - hugs

My heart is breaking after reading this 'nameless' poem. The second verse all but brought me to tears--the sadness that broke my heart. I can't imagine someone leaving their child in a bag...can't wrap my head around someone who apparently has no moral compass. Good contest contender. Have a great evening, Sara

Painful to read and yet not scifi horror or fantasy. These things happen all the time. The child and it's parents may be unknown to many, but not to the Creator of man, who takes notice even when a sparrow dies and falls to the ground. I'm not much for contests but this feels like a winner
