Blue Cheese and Old Pickles
Poetry Contest
Sponsored by: Craig Cornish

3rd place in the contest

The white almond blooms once again Who hasn’t wanted to sing the praises of the complete Trigger the sense of smell with this special odor Green pickles used to be so eager, now hears my groan I hate thinking of the blue moldy, the debility of aging With a wrench I closed the lid of all pleasure In the treetops the crows roared with laughter - that it is terribly rude to laugh If laughter was their only joy, frailty showed A fire burned in me, the soul tormented I can’t bear to eat my food with a toothpick after becoming slow and contemplative

Anne-Lise, the things we enjoy may change over time. I still do like blue cheese, but I’m becoming less partial to pickles. They come in varying states of sour. Maybe it’s just getting harder to find those prepared properly. Smiles!!

Such a brilliant and delightful poem my dearest poet friend Anne-Lise. Although these two don't go well on my taste bud, your poem does. I've immensely savoured it with smiles. Thanks a lot for sharing. Best wishes and God bless you always. Hugs

I'm hungry now. I like both Bleu cheese and pickles and can be served together (pickles get old? Never). I enjoy the message in your poem. The scent is extolled, so perfume would be better. The foods stand for undesirable, such as aging. This is a dietary winner. Good luck.

Dear Anne-Lise, O' how your words bring a certain melancholy beauty, a reflection on life’s changes and the passage of time. I can feel the weight of each line and the bloom of the almond, once so full of promise, and yet the chili pepper, now a loss and frailty. I love the image of the crows, laughing yet showing their own vulnerability, which captures so much of life’s bittersweetness. Spring Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel
