What to Submit?

Theme:

  • Poems should explore the author's reasons for believing in God(s) (Whose God(s), not believing in God, or holding an agnostic perspective ("Maybe God").

  • Poems should also present the evidence, experiences, or reasoning that supports your perspective.

  • The theme is broad enough to allow for a wide range of interpretations and approaches. Poets can explore personal experiences, spiritual experiences, philosophical arguments, scientific arguments, theological arguments, doubts, certainties, and the nature of faith itself or lack thereof.

Preparing Your Entry

Submit one copy of your poem online. Format your poem. Please make your entry easy to read — no illustrations or fancy fonts. 

RULES:
Make this your TITLE: 
The Eternal Question: God, No God, Maybe God
FORM: Any poetic form is acceptable
MAX Words: 400

CONTENT:

  • Poems must address the theme of reasons for belief or disbelief in God.

  • Poems should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the topic providing evidence or reasoning to support the stated perspective.

  • While the theme deals with a serious subject all poems can take on various tones, including serious, questioning, humorous, or satirical.

  • POEMS SHOULD NOT BE OFFENSIVE, hateful, or disrespectful towards any religion and/or belief system. The focus should be on the poet's own perspective.

Judging:

  • Poems will be judged anonymously

  • I will evaluate poems based on:

    • Clarity and effectiveness in addressing the theme

    • Strength of evidence or reasoning

    • Originality and creativity

    • Use of Poetic skill (use of language, imagery, form, tools, etc.)

Disqualification:

  • Entries that do not comply with these rules will be disqualified.

  • No AI-generated content just make it your own argument.

English Language

Poems should be in English. Poems translated from other languages are not eligible unless you wrote both the original poem and the translation.
