What is hate?? But Love turned backward … so if we can get to this point, this. … Nothingness of emotion then surely it must have had a start … a beginning. An Alpha if you will that must have an end … an Omega.

I have seen hate, in its entire myriad glories … it offers so much and yet gives so little. The thing that quantifies cannot always exemplify this attribute of human nature. I have seen the worst of man and the best of man … and I must say … I am surprised. For all the “hate” that I have seen in my daily life I have always, and I do mean always seen more love.

It’s funny how statistics work, they will tell you how many times in an hour a rape occurs, or how many times a day a murder is committed, you will hear on the evening news that a mother .. Or father killed their entire family before turning the gun on themselves (“a family annihilator is what they call them”). But you never hear about the mother that woke up at six AM, prepared breakfast for her husband and children before she herself went off to work, she never hurt anyone … she just “lived” this life that she was given and never asked for more than the love that she received from her family …. Hahaha no … that doesn’t interest anyone right …. WRONG, it interests me … and I hope you!

It’s funny how … whenever I look at the paper, I always look for the bad parts first, I skim the lines and pick out what is atrocious to me and read them before any other …. I know you do too; you can say you don’t all you want but your only fooling yourself. They didn’t come up with the line “it’s like watching a train wreck” for no reason. But I say it’s time to step away from that, it’s time for us to think about what we could do to make those people in the statistics page not be a statistic, HEART is what’s not printed in black and white, we all have it, it's been entrusted to each and every one of us … it just depends on how we choose to use it … so use it well!!!

If there were more good news, I would read it first, Ryland. The media seems to concentrate its efforts on telling of tragedies. Sometimes these tragedies inspire good actions though. The security officer who shot a gunman who was threatening the local school board has a "Salvage Santa" operation for local children. After hearing of his courage, Schwinn donated 500 new bicycles for the area's poor children to brighten their holidays. The outpouring of good will has really touched this community. It's really wonderful that this tragedy produced a positive outcome. Thanks for sharing, Ryland. Peace and holiday blessings, Carolyn

This was a great blog. The media plays up hate, crime and disaster because it sells, more so than county fairs, love and achievement. When we stop seeing the good, it is time to quit. God Bless. Vince

Well dear poet; you have touched on a subject that is rife, not just today, yet, has been, even so many times through out the scriptures of history in the Bible ! Though in the Inspired words, there is cause and justification. Now I am not trying to ridicule you here great writer, for your thoughts here, yet; it is souls as yourself who cause this action to persist. Come up with a blog with constructive metaphor, which is inherent, truly, in us all...and you will find, if not just here on the Soup,...(as I have clearly seen by comments made);you will not only find the willing here,willing to promote the activist action, you will have a following ! Thanks for sharing your "Rave" Ryland! This is so important for all of us and I wish all the poets would find some time to read it. I think we're becoming "de-sensitized" to all this violence. And I fear for our little ones who if left to themselves and the media will come to believe that it's no "big deal". Blessings, peace, joy, always, Audrey

YOu are so right. Tragedy, for some odd reason, grips us. Perhaps it is becuase we feel good knowing it was not us that it happened to. I don't know why, but newscasters would not show it SO MUCH if it were not for the fact that people want to hear the bad stuff. What I hate is how the news takes one little problem, like the time of the spinach scare a few years ago, which caused places like Subway in Utah to stop putting spinach leaves in our sandwiches even until today. Or Mad Cow disease or danger of Chinese toys, just making people paranoid about silly stuff with less chance to affect us than when we go out each day to drive on the streets! They need to show every day an example of someone who sacrifices for others. Actually, I see them doing that a lot now in the news! Luv, Andrea
