Let me begin by saying that I enjoy being a part of PoetrySoup.  I have been around for last five or six years, writing, reading, meeting and interacting with talented poets from around the world. There is much I have learned! .

I wrote my first poem between the ages of five - six, after a field trip to a beach on the Atlantic coast on a most gorgeous sunny day. My Papa was so proud of me, he hung it in the living room! lol  Somewhere along the way, my poem was lost as are mamy others written in between relocating from one country to another. It was my 8th grade teacher who first advised me to keep writing.  Always a dreamer, my Papa complained that I was absent-minded and I didn't mind because it was true as there was so much to see and do everywhere else than where I was at any moment. Ah, but life has a way of making you conform to its tons of mundane tasks; however that dreamer still lives, today!

Along with poetry, I have accomplished one of my dreams with regards to writing.  I published a book, "Fiona's Journey" in 2004-my first attempt. It's nothing to brag about, yet it was an enjoyable experience and I'm glad I was given that chance to share my feelings and beliefs with others.  It was written for children but anyone would enjoy.  Since then I've embarked on a novel which is taking forever. However, I will persevere as the story means very much to me.

I live on the beautiful state of Maryland on the east coast with my family.  I have an extraordinary child who I'm extremely grateful for.  We share a life that's enriching with music, people, our love for each other and nature. We both love the ocean and visit at every opportunity that comes up.

I'm easy going and friendly; loving people just comes naturally. And I still have faith that one day, man will come to see that we have no choice but to respect and love each other or none of us will survive..not even the strongest in any sense. In my free time, I enjoy entertaining, basketball (watching- lol I'm only 5' 3"), cooking, movies, sewing and travelling.

I need to address an issue that grew from a couple of poets slamming each other while I was away from the Soup, but now concerns me directly. Only yesterday was I informed that a poem entitled “Guilty by Association,” had been written by a member in August. The poem refers to me as “Butterfly” and to another Soup member as the “Worm.” “Butterfly” is my name on another web site, and the “worm” is supposed to represent a member whom the writer claims is “rotting” in prison. My friend who is incarcerated made a mistake while intoxicated and has been paying for his mistake for seven years now.

I have never insulted the writer of this poem or any of his friends. I find the whole thing, rather infantile for any adult. What hurts me the most is that someone I thought was a friend to me for the past year is not who I thought she was. The writer has never met or communicated with my daughter or mother and yet wrote about them in his derogatory poem as well. He is being presumptuous when he speaks of how my Mother would feel or how I raised my daughter. My Mother was married to her high school “sweetheart” for 35 years and they raised 7 children. She was a devout Christian up until the day that God took her out of this world. She spent her whole life teaching kids, not looking into peoples’ lives for gossip. She would not have condemned anyone without knowing about their situation. She taught her children basic discipline, respect and to speak only of what they know of to be true! She did not raise any cowards.

Whomever, I choose to associate with is none of his or anyone’s business. If I choose to be friends with someone who was charged with a crime and is serving time in a correctional institution that is my prerogative.

If the writer is seriously making accusations that I am "guilty by association” due to any wrong doing here on the Soup, he is delusional but still, he should bring his proof or keep his mouth shut and stay out of my private life. The reason for this seething anger he feels is because of a comment which he once left for the imprisoned member on one of his poems entitled, “Notorious”.  Subsequently this comment was referenced in one of the the imprisoned members' slams.  Incidentally,  the comment he left has been removed

I can assure you that no wrong doing has ever been committed on the imprisoned member’s behalf by me! I at one time did Soup Mails on his behalf, but not in the past four to five months. Another member handles that now. I at one time left comments regularly on his behalf, which he sends by mail and I also post some of his poems. The member in prison and I are close and I’m proud that he’s my very good friend. All these insinuations and innuendoes about my friend “preying” on the weak are not true. Unfortunately, of course he is not here to defend himself.

My friend is Bi-polar, another hindrance some of us don’t have to contend with in our lives. And yes, he writes and asks those he believes are his friends for books, newspapers, etc., as he cannot afford them. Whenever friends are unable to meet his request he never insists or forces anyone to oblige. The allegation that he has been preying on the weak is unrealistic. His correspondence to everyone goes through the correctional officers, coming and going, before I or anyone else receives them.

Second thing is, I don’t encourage illegal activities, and I have never been “smitten” with my friend or any man enough to lay aside my ideals to cater to his needs. Just proves that he doesn't know me.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I have enjoyed being a Soup member since 2006. I took a break but came back to a place where poets wrote poems and shared their dreams, feelings, hopes and aspirations. Isn’t that why everyone comes here?

Well, Audrey, I see the poem has been removed, that shows us, that the writer perhaps realizes that we as a family of poets, will not allow a family members to be abused in poetry.. words are like swords.. they cut deep.. we must stick together and send a strong message out... we do not want or will not tolerate this type of poetry on our site... love Constance

Well, I'm glad someone took that awful threat from the author of that terrible poem off this blog. Because of him, I will probably not be posting more poems. I don't want to expose myself to these attacks. And I'm really sorry for what he put you through

Audrey, you have obviously been deeply hurt by this poem, and I am feeling your pain, you do not have to answer to anyone for the feelings you have for this man, if you care for him and he you, that is your concern. It does not matter what anyone says, follow your heart. There are still many wonderful and supportive people on this site, granted we have lost some people recently, but still do not be discouraged, many people care... many people understand and many of us are still here to write poetry and make this site still have that family feeling.. if we all work together it can happen..

HI again, Audrey, I was not worried about it. I just don't understand sometimes what people do and say here at Soup. There have been several occasions when I have been astounded by things that people have said to me or by things I've seen them write about other people. I hope we can all take care what we write here on the Soup! Luv, Andrea

Dear Andrea, thanks for your kind comments which are important to me. Please don't worry, about the initials A.D. left by the commentor on that poem. She knew who the poem was about. That was just an "attempt" to throw off..really sad, I think. Thanks again, though. Your friendship is always appreciated. Love, Audrey

This is very troubling, Audrey. I was thinking of joining as a premium member, but after reading this poem, I have to think again. Perhaps there are more supportive sites out there where people are treated kindly. My heart goes out to you for the pain this writer has caused you. Take care and feel free to Soup Mail me if you care to chat. Diane

The slams in this poem are revolting, Audrey and you know you have some good friends here who support you. It is unconscienable for anyone to talk about your daughter or your late mother in this manner and I wish admin would address these slams. I am and will always be here for you, dear. You deserve to be treated with respect; you have a sweet nature and a loving heart. This whole event makes me so mad. Love, Carolyn

Hello there Audrey! In awe you and I are I see, of the world around us ! From the ant that won't get out of our way so we cause no crush to their likes, to the rape and pilage of our loved ones, in any form...Christ said that, "I came to heal the sick, the healthy are in no need of a physician", when asked why he ate and drank with the likes that he did...and he did so with open loving arms. You likewise do so, and even when the clouds are thick with thunder, you will witness the Doves flight ! *smiles* Your reputation sets fine with many of us here ! Much love, james

Dear Audrey, I believe you are a good person, and I am sure all your friends think the same. Like Linda said, put this all behind you. I just went and read the poem and the comments to it. The commentors didn't even seem to guess who the butterfly was. One person made a funny guess(in joke)that it might be A.D. and I take it that AD is ME!?? Just keep writing your poetry for us and sharing with us. I appreciate you. LUv, Andrea
