Let me begin by saying that I enjoy being a part of PoetrySoup.  I have been around for last five or six years, writing, reading, meeting and interacting with talented poets from around the world. There is much I have learned! .

I wrote my first poem between the ages of five - six, after a field trip to a beach on the Atlantic coast on a most gorgeous sunny day. My Papa was so proud of me, he hung it in the living room! lol  Somewhere along the way, my poem was lost as are mamy others written in between relocating from one country to another. It was my 8th grade teacher who first advised me to keep writing.  Always a dreamer, my Papa complained that I was absent-minded and I didn't mind because it was true as there was so much to see and do everywhere else than where I was at any moment. Ah, but life has a way of making you conform to its tons of mundane tasks; however that dreamer still lives, today!

Along with poetry, I have accomplished one of my dreams with regards to writing.  I published a book, "Fiona's Journey" in 2004-my first attempt. It's nothing to brag about, yet it was an enjoyable experience and I'm glad I was given that chance to share my feelings and beliefs with others.  It was written for children but anyone would enjoy.  Since then I've embarked on a novel which is taking forever. However, I will persevere as the story means very much to me.

I live on the beautiful state of Maryland on the east coast with my family.  I have an extraordinary child who I'm extremely grateful for.  We share a life that's enriching with music, people, our love for each other and nature. We both love the ocean and visit at every opportunity that comes up.

I'm easy going and friendly; loving people just comes naturally. And I still have faith that one day, man will come to see that we have no choice but to respect and love each other or none of us will survive..not even the strongest in any sense. In my free time, I enjoy entertaining, basketball (watching- lol I'm only 5' 3"), cooking, movies, sewing and travelling.

As promised, today I launch my first sponsored contest with the theme- “If I Had One Day Left to Live.”

This may seem morbid to you, but it’s what it is, reality.  If it’s any consolation, some have thought about this at one time or another. So dig deep, go for it and express your feelings!  Would you change your outlook? Would you rebel? Would you just let go and get wild?  Would you go quietly?  What would you do?

You’ve probably heard the song, “Live like You Were Dying” by one of my favorites, Bon Jovi, I think.  Some good advice in that title, especially when you consider that none of us is promised a tomorrow. For most young adults, this is furthest from their minds, but for many thirty and above, perhaps some younger, every now and then we think about our last day most especially when we lose a loved one.  I have lost family and friends and while grieving I’ve often wondered if they were ready, if they had accomplished their dreams or whether they were at peace with themselves.

Because this will be my first time judging a poetry contest, I’d like to ask for your patience as I tackle the process of judging.  I believe I’m fair and can be objective in my judgment!  Thanks in advance for your participation.

Wish me luck as I wish you the same!

Peace, love,

Audrey
