Jealousy

In many of the angst filled love/lost love poems I read, the subject of jealousy rears its ugly head; an emotion that I have long held as destructive. Yet, whenever I start thinking about it, I come to realise that it is not as black and white as that. To show none of the signs that collectively colour a jealous mood might be interpreted as not caring…So the left end of the scale records an acceptable response from caring, and the right, unreasonable behaviour?Then where is the line drawn?

I do agree with most of what Carrie said even though I do think we all have this thing inside us whether its a trait or not its there. Some just deal with it better than others.

Another interesting and thoughtful topic, Nigel! I do believe it is a human characteristic inborn in all of us, just as anger would be, however, it's in how we learn to handle it that matters, self control, and grace can do a lot to temper it, and not let it eat away at ourselves and others. Jealousy in love situations is one thing, however, I think jealousy is a bigger issue in other facets of life...be it the workplace, status in society, "the keeping up with the Jones's" mentality. I see more and more of that every day. So a good self worth and self esteem does wonders for tempering jealousy traits. Just a thought...Good discussion!! ~ , Carrie

Dear Nigel, both Christopher and Patricia make great points. I think I better not touch this, or it will end up being 3 or 4 paragraphs. You certainly know how to make for interesting discussion. Jealousy is a trait we all have streaming through us. Some may respond better than others but we all do feel and jealously is a a product of our emotions. I don't know where the line should be drawn but emotions are what makes us tick whether good or bad. Nigel I know I am about to go off in left field, but think about how long the theme of being jealous has played out throughout history. Some of the great leaders both biblical and secular have fallen prey to this emotion. Like you said I don't think its is black and white. I also think its something that we all have in us, some shows it more than others and even act upon it. Thanks brother.
