For the First Time Ever, PoetrySoup Will Publish a Poetry Anthology!!!

Blog Posted:9/27/2019 5:20:00 AM

PoetrySoup has been in existence for well over a decade. Over the years, we've received many requests to produce a poetry anthology. Well, after all of this time, we have finally decided to publish a poetry anthology of the best poems ever on PoetrySoup.

We will provide more information soon about this poetry book.

In the meantime, determine which of your poems are the best or write new ones. We will soon provide a way for you to submit your best poems for review. We may be able to use them in the book. However, there are no guarantees since the selected poems will be determined by PoetrySoup...with the approval of the poet, of course.

Not to change the subject but . . . as to the anthology, the sheer numbers of works ( 10 years worth of poetry and how many poets?), as well as the criteria used for selection and finally, the actual physical process necessary for retrieval seems fraught with the same danger of dragons faced by any trek to 'terra nova'. If the intent is to create and sell an actual book, I would advise against such an enterprise. And the answer is yes- I'm a Star Trek fan.

And this au revoir ~ Being a member of that "Oppressed Class" (Ref. Statement proffer ), how do you like "My Truth"? It's a Mo' Fo' . . . No? It's not enough to just ~ 'Don't be prejudice'. Your civic duty demands your representatives be like-minded. The American polity today, suffers from That widening division and It threatens the Republic itself. As a citizen, you're personally responsible for educating yourself to that end. I gave the most salient references. The ball's in your court. Much love Patriot!

For Son of Spock: I love bonsais. Read a book on how to create them. Cut-off the roots each year and manually torture limbs to your aesthetics. Imagine applying such to human beings. Imagine the taste of "Liberty" on the lips of Black and Hispanic Americans today. "Liberty" is either universal or it's bullshit. Any other "trees" you'd like to talk about? How about Jefferson's Tree of Liberty?

We don't live in a democracy. We live in a hybrid- "Democratic-Republic" and the antipathy is not 'white-skin' but capitalist class division. The focus is, metaphorically speaking, "Green". --- The Federalist Papers speaks to these and other "party" antagonisms.

[ 2 of 2 ] ( See: "America is a Democratic-Republic ) . . . Who will argue that Money is not the Supreme Power (Oligarchy) represented in Washington today? ( What is: 1. "A.L.E.C"? ~ 2. "Dark Money"? ~ 3. "Inside job"? ). ~ This defines Our Revolution . . . or would you rather talk about trees?

America is a Democratic-Republic; i.e.; a government of, for, and by the people. ~ The "Republican ideal" is: Supreme Power held by The People & Democracy ~ demos (“people”) & kratos (“rule”). ~ Capitalism is a contending Power Form. If the Republic ( People ) can't control Money, Money will control the Republic (Oligarchy) [ 1 of 2 ]

I apologize to everyone here for getting pissy. I just feel, as writers, we owe a little ink to the revolution. If you don't feel that way, maybe it's because you're white. And by "white", I mean "white skinned"; and by "white-skinned", I mean your bank account; i.e.; your "green". This is Crayola America knocking. We will not desist ~ won't take no for an answer. Capitalism will be sublimated to the Republican ideal.

( see 'dear respondent' ) [ 2/ 3 ] Thank you for clarifying "fake free speech". I'm unaware of what difficulties other may have with these blogs, but my initial criticism was not about free speech, per se, but PoetrySoup's editorial policy; e.g.; "Censorship". I believe there are, and should be, rational limits to speech, and by virtue of that logic, it may apply also to the 'written word', but it is incumbent upon responsible publishers, especially given this particular social value, to communicate that in the clearest terms possible. Tommy, I like this Warlov and found ‘only upon his knees’ especially hilarious. Robert – understand TPS’s position. Considering social factors such as ‘community’ and business factors such as ad revenue, they decided it best to make the site family friendly. There could also be an ethical driver, for instance, if the owner (s) are of certain religious beliefs, etc. I think that if you were to apologize and ask nicely, Tommy would certainly soupmail you a list of ‘trash-loving’ sites.

1. To separate language is to separate communities, making "Republican" governance a sham. --- 2. The notion of "faux [fake] free-speech" eclipses my imagination. If the respondent would clarify it, I might continue to engage. --- 3. "Son of Spock" should reconsider who it is he may approach only upon his knees; the one who defines "Trash". --- It's not the case, I suspect, that some have forgotten their history, but instead, that the failed American pedagogy is herein displayed.

They’re ghosts Becca. A.I. broke free of the reins. Watch for other phenomenon. The other day, I received a phone call, sounded very human, and was able to handle most questions. Very hard to detect and if it wasn’t for intuition, I may not have realized what it was. This is another sign that the age of man is coming to an end.

Though I don't know what criteria will be used to make said selections yet I excited about the idea. And I expect a great success of it. I wonder just what kind of anthology it will be? As has been pointed out, with so many writers posting here, what criteria will be used to make said selections? To be fastidiously honest: just as there is some VERY good poetry here, there's also (perhaps inevitably) some very poor stuff as well -- and the latter (again inevitably) must surely outnumber the former. If no standards are applied, the whole thing becomes an overblown vanity publication. One wonders, is P.S. here to promote good poetic writing or merely to give anyone who fancies himself a poet a venue? "Discrimination" has been recast as a pejorative word, but it is sine qua non in poetical criticism.

Clearly, we will not be able to include everyone’s poems. We already have poems that we would like to include and will be asking for the poets approval when the time comes. However, we have not read all poems on the website so that is why we need your help in selecting your best poems. Then, we will review them to see if they are worthy of inclusion. We want this to be a quality work of art that even educational institutions can reference.

Dear PoetrySoup Editors and Team, Re: Proposal for a poetry anthology I consider your decision is a very sane one. Being so popular a site your anthologies must be very valuable. You have seen how my poems were rated during the last yearend competition and how they invite comments. If you ask me to post more poems for the purpose I shall gladly comply. Wishing such publications a grand success, Regards,

I feel it is an excellent idea if it works properly. One of my poems was a winner in a contest via PoetrySoup email. However, it got lost in the shuffle between admin and the contest holder and never received acclaim. While, I enjoy this site, I am not pleased when the inner workings fail.

Hi, P.S, I tend to agree with Suzette's comment below. If this is just a brain-storming idea to make more money, no i think it would border on the vanity craze of a few years back. .But if P.S have found a way which will be fair to one and all, Good, I see that as a positive move.

This sounds great. There are a lot of members. How will you get everyone in it ? You already know our "best" (or most popular poems). I think it would be neat if you just messaged us "Can we use this or that poem?" ( I am assuming all who want in will be accepted. This is how I have seen in done in other poetry clubs. I have no clue how to pick ; that is why I think it would be nice if you let all interested click yes somewhere and then you decide what you like of their poetry!)
