You Soupers do a GREAT job of trying to maintain PoetrySoup as a haven. We thank you for the emails concerning negative or inflammatory content. Thanks again.

For other members, remember, activity deemed detrimental to PoetrySoup users or PoetrySoup will be deleted. PoetrySoup determines this and you will not receive warnings before deletions. Encouraging community members in a way that creates issues for our users who reference it as a resource will result in entire account deletions. Remember, PoetrySoup is a private website where users are allowed to share poetry and poetic friendships. Use of it is not a right, but a privilege. Poets are only welcome as long as their site activity is not deemed detrimental to community users - as determined by PoetrySoup.

We have received emails asking why we are being so tolerant of certain members. We have been very patient because we think people should be patient as a general rule. Of course, patience has its limits.

Anyway, thanks to all of you Soupers who fight the fine fight to keep PoetrySoup a haven. For the rest, save your poems.

WHEN is the "block poet" feature going to be implemented so we do not have to see blogs/comments/etc. from the blocked "poet". Will this also preclude them from participating in a contest from a person who has them blocked? I only have two people blocked and would be grateful to not be subjected to their inane drivel, prattle, self-aggrandizing. Any ETA when this feature will be available? It will prevent a lot of unnecessary drama, I think. ~Chan

I had to block one poet here for sexual harassment. He has harassed others in both female and male personas. TPS is aware of this person. Our only choice, as women, was --sadly--- to block him/her. The person is now behaving better. Perhaps decided to change.

Chan I also have only 2 blocked but it HAS stopped the comments on my blogs, poems & of course soup mail, ask Soup why it is not functioning this way for you?
Date: 1/7/2014 8:01:00 AM
Soup, somewhere way down at the bottom of this pointless rant [because we have no power what so ever so there is really no point in telling you our minds, venting because we like the sound of our own voices] you said ... If we found better things on other poetry sites you would incorporate them. If you really want to publicize our work & let us get some benefit from it, restart the site contests & publish ANTHOLOGIES of the winners works. Those you got their work in could get a ROYALTY on the sales & a token free copy. These blogs are taking valuable writing time away, best FOCUS elsewhere.

Debbie, thought I'd clarify that the idea of an anthology IS good. I could see many Soupers loving the concept, and most would want to buy a copy. Chris, I hear you. I'm so old school that I still haunt used book stores and get a high of the smell of must. Me <---weirdo

They could charge an entry fee for NON-Premium Members small like $5, they also would get most of the money from the sales & of course everyone included would probably buy one & their families & other soup members who would like to have A LOT of our work in 1 book.

But your anthology idea is one I'd mentioned ... in ... er another blog gone bad. I know other reputable on-line sites have gone in this direction-- but the work involved? It's a... BIG JOB!

Less a case of moderators PS, but rather one of 'moderation' (in the true sense of the word), by members.Been here seven years myself and have seen 'it all' on this topic so very happy to leave any 'moderating' that needs doing to the PS owners.Just my 2 cents of course.Rgds Brian

I can't believe what I am seeing and reading. *Another Debate* Many said lets leave it behind in 2013. Lmfao, here we R'. Why can't we LET IT GO, move on, and make the best of 2014.

I don't understand why grown people need moderators...just share poetry and enjoy reading other people's poetry...give good positive feedback and forget all this negativity! This is my haven...my come to place when I need a lift so I will not allow a few folks to ruin that for me ...The contests inspire me and I have learned so much in my four years that I have enjoyed the Soup.We are an international and diverse group of people so naturally there will be some dissension and disagreement but let's not let that ruin our haven.I'm proud to call everyone here my friend. I just want to write poetry...share my poems and be encouraged, uplift others tooThat's what this site should be about....

Because like the world we live in, you have people on PoetrySoup with bad intentions. That's just life. The sad state of humankind. If all people had good intention, were kind and selfless, etc. we would have no need for locks on doors, police, security systems, etc.
Date: 1/6/2014 11:29:00 AM
Well, whatever is decided won't make much difference to me. I'm just proud to be here ...;) I don't get worked up over much of anything and when I do, I just remember that I'd rather be fishin'. As Barney Fife said, "It's Therapedic!"

No censorship, no member moderators, it makes me so sad, members asked for censorship & now we have it up the Yin Yang [and I don't mean the two rivers in China] The blocks should be enough to protect us from unwanted member intrusion now that they block, soup mail, comments & blog input simultaneously. We didn't really need even word sensors until Slam was accepted as a form, now you can't even writer pussywillow! in a poem. It so reminds me of Fahrenheit 451

Agreed. It is a shame that a few bad apples spoil the entire "blog". Unfortunately people can't control their emotions...and we target a certain demographic with PoetrySoup. The poetry by Soupers is GREAT, however. Of course, we allow a little more "creativity" in poems.

I do believe moderators will be having lots of pressure.Hope We don't loose such special friends too then.Even if one is not a moderator and is trying to act as neutrally as He She can.He She can still feel the pressure of parties fighting. If She says something..One would think She is against him.If She says anorher, the other would think she she is against him..Even if in her mind She He being neutral wishes pnly for some peace.I seen many great choices for moderators below..But lets hope they won t end up the victim in the process..Maybe David Williams said it best...I guess i ve read enough blogs ..I go read some poetry now,People put lot of heart in their poetry.Need to be read!

As mentioned earlier, we are still torn on the moderator issue. That's a lot of pressure for a member and it subjects them to ridicule. We may keep status quo or maybe we'll have clandestine moderators. :-)
Date: 1/6/2014 7:54:00 AM
When you receive monetary gains for premium or lifetime memberships, then considerations should be made for those people and their contribution(s). Before a poem or blog is deleted, the author should have the right to know why it is being deleted and afforded an opportunity to revise if necessary. It's a PRIVILEGE for you all to be paid and compensated for access to additional features, which are not integral to the TPS experience itself. Yes, there has been drama which, by the way, has been handled between members without further need of autocracy, I might add. Like I have already said: TPS's behavior is becoming as questionable, unsavory and uncouth of those they try and quell.

,I vote for........... Phyllis, Joyce, Andrea, Sandra, Juliet, Kelly D.... Russell, Owen, James P, Joseph... Never seen one cast a stone. Soup, Is it time to vote? Dot-dot-dot-dot-dot-dot--- I don't think a person who has done name calling should be honored as a good example. We the trouble makers should have no say so in casting a vote for our friends. :) But, since it looks as if the voting has begun. I would like to put more votes in. I would like to see Giorgio and Frank H, for soup Moderators. :) Frank, fights for the people, even if it gets out of hand. I vote for Giorgio, -he loves everyone, and thinks everyone is either good or the same person..... Soup, moderators should be chosen by you. A moderator should be a poet, who has never been reported or blocked. That would keep everything clean. Thank you TPS....PD

(cont 2) After three years here, I've witnessed people who've squabbled become good friends. Linda, haven't you seen this, too? There have been times when I've seen "moderators" here, acting out of the goodness of their hearts. Yes?

(cont) I think that I saw many take up the position themselves for years. Wait. Let me explain. I have seen many sooth each other, act as a bridge between parties, add humour to a situation, even ask people to cool off. And we've been there for each other. I've seen it.

I'd vote for Mystic Rose, but she'd decline. And Gail, too, but I think she'd decline. And Carrie, but, I'm fairly certain she'd decline, too. Andrea WOULD be awesome, but I can't see her wanting the position. Actually, I can't think of one person who'd want to the responsibility... BUT

This comes from the best of intentions, my own experiences here and kindness: Ruben is not only an excellent poet but a good man. He is usually the one calming the storms, cooling heated conversations and acting as a ... conscience.. to many soupers. The irony of the situation is that I would expect you would want him, above anyone else here, as a moderator. Why? Because he is a voice of reason, a peacekeeper and has rectified so many situations here with his good heart, good advice and kind ways. I have seen it again and again. I wanted you to know this. The irony is sad... incredibly sad. Telling him to go elsewhere is exactly what I didn't expect. May we tell you our feelings?
